It beggars belief - SAS now made to train the Libyans
Just how low can this Government stoop as it seems there is no limit to what they can descend to:
SAS Reportedly Training Libyan Special Forces - May Be Linked To Lockerbie Bomber Release | World News | Sky News
So a country that has funded murdering our troops is now being trained by our most elite of soldiers? What the hell do Labour think they are playing at? Could they insult the British Army any more than this?

Jesus Christ the man armed the IRA with plastic explosive for years and was indirectly reponsible for the shooting of a police officer in London, not to mention his involvement in Lockerbie !!

i'm not sure why it comes as such a big surprise
the US funded the IRA which killed many UK troops
the US funded armed and trained the Taliban (the modern incarnation of the Mujahideen)
which is killing UK troops
the UK has sold arms all over the world -- inc Iraq -- which are eventually used to kill UK troops
I remember being told a funny story by an ex army bloke who was patrolling the inland rivers of Central Belize -- they came under bow and arrow attack from the natives -- one squadie got an arrow in the ****, when the got in back to a field hospital and extracted the arrow they all laughed coz it had been purchased from a sports shop in Croydon -- according to the label
money talks bull**** walks

of course by training them they'll know exactly what the libyans are capable of, because they will have taught them! could be handy in the future
Plus i'm sure they won't give away all their trade secrets

Typical politician's decision
I bet Brown didn't spend a minute seeking the views of wise old heads that know Libya as well as some military chaps.
He would quickly have found out that the Libyans are a two faced bunch of double crossing liars who would willingly allow their grannies to be raped if it suited them. And that's being kind.
But I suppose we could give them the task of finding Osama which should keep them busy
A classic error.

The SAS are not gonna give away all the tricks of the trade,Brown maybe a Clown...Training can mean such simple tasks as fitness and basic weapons training...

To be honest with you,you could pick a book up nowadays from wh smith that will give away SAS secrets,i never thought from the start writing books on the SAS was ever a good idea.As for what's happening now it's the lesser of two evils.

Doesn't suprise me in the slightest, between us, the USA, and Russia we have trained 3/4 of the worlds armies!!
And if we haven't trained them, we've supplied them!!

Reading a book is one thing, being trained by these chap is another. Chances are they will put them through lots of live firing and under extreme combat conditions and all that that entails. They will be better soldiers and more able to fight and fight hard having been trained by the best in the world.

yep your right ofcourse reading a book is different.I was only saying that you can too easily get an insight into the SAS through books now a days, which i don't think is a good thing. This post caught my interest because i have a family member who is in the regiment, and my Dad's brother who was in but is now retired...

Out of interest what are their thoughts on this topic? Do they see it as a betrayal or a case of better to keep your enemies close and on side, i.e. have Libya denouncing terrorism and combating it as opposed to their previous stance of supporting it?

Basically.it's like training your enemy to fight better..I do go out running sometimes with the old mans brother, but we vaguely talk about these things,we just talk about normal stuff, have a laugh and a chat over a couple of beers shoot some pool and what not.He is driving to Czech republic with me in a few weeks time though so should be good. ....

PC Yvonne Fletcher - this is one reason, shows how litle respect our government has for her or her family, same for the victims of Lockerbie.
No one was ever brought to justice over this and for this alone we should not train them.

"... In a letter to Gordon Brown, Paul McKeever, the chairman of the Police Federation, said he was ''shocked, appalled and disgusted'' that the UK agreed the murderer would go on trial in Libya. The Foreign Office has conceded that any trial for the shooting - which took place outside the Libyan embassy in London 25 years ago - will take place in Tripoli.
The agreement was reportedly struck three years ago, when trade deals worth hundreds of millions of pounds were being negotiated. ..."
As the Chairman said, quite disgusting ... The sooner this load of feckwits are out of office the better.
