TV question for you AV freaks :)
Is it me or is CRT still a better image than LCD / Plasma / Rear Projection ?
Especially when a DVD is playing through it
It maybe my eyes but the kids CRT TV seems to be really crisp and sharp with DVD's compared to other TV's I have seen as above

What I said was I havent seen anything in HD that would make me go WOW, and I also said but then I have only seen very little in HD
I have a HD TV, my brother has a HD TV and my Mum & Dad do too, my Mum & Dad's TV only has a standard NON HD cable box, so they only watch things through the standard Scart socket
My Brothers TV I havent seen anything in HD on it, and my HD TV is still in the box
The only other ones I have seen are HD Video Conferencing which is good but not stunning, and one HD demo in Comet ( say no more )
edited to add not taken as a dig, I dont need glasses as my eyesight is pretty perfect according to my optician

Many people do need glasses for watching tv, driving etc, but don't realise it. This also seems to be the reason why a lot of people say they can't see the benefits of HD.
In your case, your eyesight is fine, but it sounds like you haven't really seen any decent HD!

I know, and I do want to I just dont want to go into the shops and see the sh*te they have on demo
I really need to unbox my HD TV and get it mounted on the wall and get a blu ray player
not having a player is one of the main reasons for not getting the TV hung on the wall

Simple fact is most CRT sets are smaller than the new Plasmas etc and if you put a SD picture through it which is all they were designed for then it's likely to look better than a Plasma which is designed for a HD input and will have to upscale the image to fill the screen. bigger screen and you'll see more artefacts in the picture.

I think Samsung briefly did an HD CRT. The benefit of CRT is that it doesn't have a native resolution and therefore doesn't have to bleed colours across a number of pixels. This means pictures of any resolution appear sharp.
Both my TV and PC monitor are still CRT - apart from the space saving, I can't see any reason to change to LCD or plasma.

yeah I can very much believe that. The LCD will need to scale the picture to the screen so an extra layer of processing so to speak taking place. HD sets are made for a HD source to get the best from them. akin to putting 95 Ron in a scoob when it's designed to work best with 99 Ron
