nokia N97 problems?
Hi, I've just got an N97, only had it a week, and it's locked up on me at least 10 times!
It throws a fit on the net sometimes(I'm on three, so no iffy sites allowed!), and also it just turns itself off when idle, both these faults require the battery to be removed to fix the fault.
Will this right itself, or do i have a duff phone?
Thanks,Mit

Should have got an iPhone!
I always hear about these phones (nokia/symbian) locking up but of all the phones I have had of this kind, I have never had "issues" with it. Once or twice they have frozen, but nothing serious.
Not read too many reviews complaining of too much locking or freezing, so maybe its carrier specific software causing the freezes?

My biggest issue with it is the abysmal reception. No reception at parents house now - whilst several bars on my missus same network Vodafone.
I just upgraded it to Version 11 firmware - check if you have this (trawl deep in the menus!)

Reception remains ****e. I have now taken to holding it by the top two corners with finger and thumb. Holding it by the bottom 'normally' costs 3 bars reception and heats my hand!!! F amazing useless impractical beautifully keyboarded piece of ****e/awsome laptop in your hand device! Arghhh!!

My N97 is always a problem. The battery life is shocking on mine, unfortunately I was stupid enough to buy a SIM free version, and put my PAY-As-You-GO sim in to find I lost £4 just for getting the wheather updates Also upgraded from version 10 to 11 firmware and it still locks up.

Its one of those phones you either love or hate!
on the plus side:-
Huge memory
Iplayer & widescreen
keyboard is easy to use once you master its quirkyness
Camera & video function are reasonable
On the minus side
Keyboard- Whilst good, accessing function keys or specific symbols is a pita
OS- Symbian needs a major overhaul, its slow and clunky especially on touchscreen models
Firmware- Whilst the phone has some very clever touches, it has some hugely frustrating niggles... make a call in one menu, and the keys work.. make the same call in another menu, and only the screen works.
Search comes in two flavours, a very clever one or a very long winded one.. the clever one however is only used for one app, (why!!).
Conformation of actions.. cick ok when performing an operation, then you have to confirm (press yes) again to carry out the operation!!
The biggest p*sser for me is the stupid iphone wannabe setting whereby you have to wipe the bloody screen to answer a call. WHY!!!!! its not and never will be an i phone ffs. it turns the whole operation of one handed use into a two handed waving fest

lol James of course I was joking, kinda
I really like the N97, a friend has a few for sale, so I might have a tinker and see what I think of them myself.
Reception could be a hardware problem, broken receiver or something. Would explain a couple of problems.
Just out of interest, have you tried switching it to GSM rather than Dual in connections?
Could be the phone battling to try and stay on a really poor 3G signal. Quite common too.
Calm down Mart lol, its only a phone mate

Wisely done master. Lull them into a false sense of security with honeyed words, then smash them with the iron fist of subjugation
