My pleasure

Quick car question mate.

Do repeated jump starts damage a battery? My father in law's car rarely gets driven and almost always needs a jump start. I'm concerned that the battery is now unable to store a charge. Once the car is started, it will run for on tick over for half an hour or so and then refuse to re-start the next day. Do we need to run it for longer, rub it on the road at higher engine loads or is the battery fubard?

Ta

well first of all you should check the electrolyte level of the battery (the liquid that looks like water) you will have to take the caps off each chamber of the battery if the levels are ok you should get a high discharge test done on the battery and check if any of the cells are boiling if they are then battery fubar. but to be honest with you if you don't know what your doing just take it to your local garage or motor factors

Just idling won't help charge the battery, drive the thing with the fan on at least....

IMHO

...and it's in their interest to determine that the battery needs replacing!

well you'll just have to trust that they will be honest with you, any respectable place won't change the battery unless it has to be replaced
