Default Scotsman on top of the world (nearly)

Nearly man, Andy Murray will be confirmed as world number 2 this week ahead of Rafa Nadal. You may argue that Rafa had been injured (true) but the rankings cover the performances over a year and Murray was injured as well for a substantial part of the past year.

Highest ranked Briton in the modern era (until he drops or loses again and then he will go back to being a Scot )

And he came back from one set and 4-5 down, serving to save the match, to come through and win.

Yes, for a Briton he really is the real deal. Fantastic!

Brit wins Masters

He deserves the same support he was prepared to give the English team in the World Cup.

Yes because the English never go against Scotland, granted we never get far enough to have you be anti but never the less

Well done Murray. Do any of you many tennis historians out there know if any other male player has ever reached world number 2 with such a modest Grand Slam record?

Murray to date:

US Open: lost in Final 2008
Wimbledon: lost in Semi-Final 2009, lost in Quarter-Final 2008
French Open: lost in Quarter-Final 2009
Australian Open: lost in 4th round 2009

In contrast, the new number 3 Nadal has 6 Grand Slam titles:

French Open: 4x Champion
Wimbledon: 1 x Champion (+2 losing Finals)
Australian Open: 1x Champion (+1 losing Semi and 1 losing Quarter)
US Open: lost in Semi-Final 2008 (+1 losing Quarter)

Murray has just got win one of those Grand Slam events to be remembered as a great player for me. He's had a couple of good chances and always blown it so far.

Tennis - possibly the dullest sport known to mankind. We have a dull Scottish bloke who is not bad at the sport but will never make it past the semis at Wimbledon and as that is the only tennis that anyone in the UK watches he will always be the new Henman.

As a matter of interest, which country sponsored his initial training from the start? Was it the LTA?

He trained in Spain and turned pro at 18, paid for by his parents I think.

He is far better than Henman and I think most people realise that.

Henman was great for Wimbledon, bless his cotton sock, but not a patch on Murray.

I dont like this guy. He was interviewed and when the reporter mentioned something about being the British number one, replied he was scottish and wasnt a fan of the British. He also mentioned that when England plays any type of championship game, he always supports the other side.

So, f**k him, he's a miserable **** anyway. As for being number 2, makes you wonder how poor the rest of the lot are !

I can't believe people are still banging on about this anti-English crap. The reporter even gave an interview saying it was obviously a joke he was having with Tim Henman who was with him at the time.

Still, not like SN to let the truth get in the way of a good story is there?

Nope !

The man is a tosser, he's miserable, he has no personality, and he's scottish ! Later point being the main reason.

He can go back to Scotland, and take Gordon Brown with him.

:-)
