I was looking to apply for a new style driving license but have been told that some of the categories have been changed. The old categorie D1 allowed you drive a mini bus with up to 16 passengers, on the new licences this is aparently reduced to 8 without a medical. I have also been told that the towing categories have been amended.
Does anybody know if this is true or has anybody got access to the new & old style of license and could they please do a quick comparison & post the results.
Thanks
Stuart

I'd also be interested in what the differences in the licenses are, especially towing regulations . My Younger Brother passed his test not long after me , but he has a new licence, I have the Paper one. We both tow large trailers with large 4x4's and I have a feeling he shouldn't be

Mines Clean as of last week
Anyone any idea of the towing limits for someone with a new license. I have an old paper one and I think I'm ok, but not sure whether my brother can drive car and trailer with combined weight of 4 tonne. (he has new license)

The license categories on the old style licence are given on the back & are as follows
A - motorbike
B - Car up to 3500 Kg & up to 9 Seats
C1 - Lorries, 3500 Kg - 7500 kG
D1 - Buses with between 9 & 16 passenger seats not used for
hire or reward
B+E - Cars or light vans with up to 9 seats & up to 3500 Kg
towing a trailer over 750 Kg
C1+E - Lorries,3500-7500Kg towing trailer over 750Kg total weight
not more than 8250 Kg
D1+E - Buses with between 9 & 16 passenger seats not used for hire
or reward towing a trailer over 750Kg
Is anything given on the new one apart from the actual letter
A,B etc. I am not even sure their would be sufficent room as
I have not seen one yet
