Another one of your accounts by accident or someone elses?
Cash/Cheque or electronic transfer?

Cash paid into someone else's account.

A large amount too.

They get richer you get poorer
If you contact your bank asap and explain what's happened they should be able to help, but do it as soon as you can.

It's been a couple of weeks tbh.

From what i've read, the person will be contacted by the bank and asked to give it back...but that then means they can keep it if they want. That doesn't seem right to me?

LOL - I think if it is a bank error then they can take it back as in Nat's experience.

If it is your error then I think you are subject to the goodwill of the recipient. Of course the bank can lean on them.

Someone I know received about £15k 20 years ago. Was never asked to give it back and in the end kept it!

I would stay positive as I would definitely give money back if it was transferred into my account and I was contacted about it.

To be honest, i've paid for goods and not received them.

I've asked the question simply as a last resort. Going to a small claims court is a big deal and with no gaurantee's, i don't have many other options.

So are we talking money into the wrong account or are we talking non-delivered goods?

Non delivered goods. I was looking for info on going about it in another way, but it's not right with no hope by the sounds of it.

Been looking into Money Claim Online.

Just a bit desperate...

Edit:-just read MCOL is for England and Wales only. Oh well.

I remember reading in a professional journal that the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) themselves incorrectly paid £50k into somebody's account in error.

The individual whose account it was decided they were going have it (Wrong move, especially seen as it was the CPS! LOL!)

The person was caught and sent to something like 5 years in prison as the money was not theirs and so was fraud/theft.

So I would not worry to much you should get it back eventually.

Police call it a civil matter and not direct fraud.

Read a couple stories like that Spen. Last one was a woman who decided a £135000 amount was hers and proceeded to give family and friends wads and spend it all. Dunno what happened to her mind you.

Will speak to my lawyer again once i've printed out all the relevant paperwork(agreeing a deal, etc) and maybe get a legal letter drawn up offering the person one last chance to repay the money or they will be taken to a Scottish Small Claims Court.

Moot point now as you've said it WASN'T paid into an incorrect account but anyone receiving money that way would be expected to know it was not a legitimate payment (Wages etc) and would be held accountable if they spent it.

Sounds to me like you have a breach of contract situation there. You have paid for goods &/or services and have received neither. I think small claims costs about £20 or £30 - Have you got contact # / address? Was it someone on here??

I have names, phone numbers, businesses and the address where they stay.

Not someone on here, but ebay. 100% feedback, but i think i'm not the only one to be "done". I stupidly put money straight into their account and have had 2 replies in texts messages from them since then, but they won't answer the phone, or reply to any further texts, or messages through ebay. They've changed their name on there too now.

I got over £50k from the VAT man once by mistake. Immediately paid it against my mortgage.

They asked for it back a month later, they got it back but I saved a few hundred on my mortgage payments meantime before drawing it back out . Everybody happy

I got stung by some **** on ebay not getting the stuff I paid for, and then found out he was doing to loads of people , contacted the police who did come out for a statement , then was told a week or so later as it was under £500 they wouldn't be taking it further and would hand it over to trading standards , they only deal with ebay fraud over £500 , never heard anything again !!

The police did say if it was over £500 they would persue it

I paid mine through nochex which was his prefered method , what a joke they are , you have no comebacks at all unlike paypal

Yer, i should have paid a secure way, but with them asking if i could pay into their account as they had a withdrawl limit(i remembered i had the same problem in the past), they wouldn't be able to get their money out for God knows how long.

With them having 100% feedback on ebay and no reason to doubt....along with their account and phone numbers, i figured i would be safe enough.

It might also give said person more info about me. Not that i have anything to hide, but i want more details on them...not a crowd of people upset for me. That won't do me any good.

I'm willing to give details of the person/s via pm only if you wish.

I would have thought that if they kept the cash knowing it was not intended for them, than they are guilty of theft. Hope they can be tracked down.
