My last race this year
So Chris and I rock up in Pewsey feeling fairly confident, leading our class by a mere 5 points at 1025 points - your best 3 of 4 scores count. We felt pretty good about the area having competed there before and knowing some of the footpaths and byways.
We cleared all 450 points on the 40km mountain bike course in 3h20 which was pretty rapid considering we took 4h10 last time out in Brecon. Only one small "misadventure" when I navigated us down the correct byway which had overgrown rather than the edge of the field that everybody else appeared to have used. Forging ahead like a 2-wheeled icebreaker through head-high nettles for about 400m took a fair bit out of my legs so we decided to bail and join the troden path.
Cramps started setting in during transition and I knew that our run was going to hurt despite our plan of staying on the flat bit rather then going up the downs. How true, the 12.5k run (1h33) was just agony with us having to stop and walk a few times as my legs just stopped working. Running with one leg straight was a new one on me, I don't recommend it.
We finished 3m20 late picking up a -20 point penalty but we still scored 570 points - the highest we have ever acheived. Sadly this was only good enough for 8th place on the day but we've extended our class lead by 50 points so we're on target to win the class.
It's just a waiting game now as we can't take part in the last race of the year as I'm going under the knife again to have my shin screws taken out. So here's praying to the gods of punctures and cramps to visit our rival teams with wrath in their final race

We did well by our own (low) standards. The guy that won the mens solo class took 975 points in 6 hours out of an available 1000...
His effort is getting close to a half distance ironman albeit with a canoe instead of a swim.
