Default Help - I Am Redundant

Evening All

I have just been made redundant this week. I work in the Construction Industry and am after something new.

Just wondering if anyone on here knows of anything going. My title was Section Manager so i am looking for something similar. I have a huge experience in drylining, carpentry, ceilings, fire sealing etc.

Based in Bristol area.

Would just be grateful if anyone could PM me if they know of anything going in or around the area. I dont want to sign on if i can help it.

Cheers Guys.

Why don't you wanna sign on? It's not just about getting a few ££ a week (which no doubt you've paid into the system over the years anyways), but you can get a lot of other help now.

Ignore the stigma if something doesn't turn up, and go see what HELP you are entitled to.

I dont understand why you dont want to sign on.
You paid your taxes over the years so your entitled to it, as COB says there is more help offered now.

I put it down to too much snobbery about signing on. I was made redundant after 22yrs in the same job. I didnt like the thought of signing, but I done it.
It opened other doors for me, I managed to get into college so I could sit my microsoft courses.
Now im in the process of starting up on my own.

I think the original poster was inferring that he'd rather get straight back into another job than have to start signing on.

Dave - I used to do construction recruitment in Bristol (for ITS) - we used to fall over ourselves for people with your skillset.

I don't think you'll have a problem - get signed up with all the agencies and temp until you get another perm job. Hays, Hill McGlynn, ITS, etc, etc.

My sisters bf is a chippy living in Exeter - he is completely inundated with work.

Sorry to hear your now unemployed. I too work in Construction (Industrial Roofing & Cladding) and things were looking very bleak for us just a couple months ago. Jobs at Design stage were cancelled/postponed. We do mostly government back projects, schools, colleges, NHS, MOD works, so the Governments major spending cut-backs hit us very hard.

Was looking at redundency myself, but luckily we won a decent sized project that will keep us going till at least the new year. After that.....

Problem we have is that we specialise in doing complicated jobs, that most Cladding companies don't want to touch. They're quite happy sticking Warehouses up year in year out. That market has dried up, so every job we now price, were up against extra companies fighting for work. Our only hope is that the main contractors look more about project history, and being able to do such jobs, rather than looking at price. Unfortunately price is king at the moment.

Yes, and I was simply saying that even if it is only for a few days/couple weeks, then it is worth signing on. For the fact there is more help available, and also the discresionary fund for things like work attire etc.

That was my point.
