Agghhhh seagulls!
I have some seagulls nesting on my neighbours roof, so I tried to take some photographs of the chicks.
I only managed one before being.....
............ spotted by a watchfull parent.
That was less than amused.
Who then proceeded to swoop down and tried to sh*t on me.
Bloody sh*tehawks

Yes it is.
Thanks
I used to feed them stale bread soaked in cider. You shoud see them run around the beach drunk - they can't even fly - used to PMSL.
Now these are dive bombing me when I walk outside of my house - may have to make friends with them over a beer or two. (now where's that stale bread)
Thanks

No such thing as a seagull
There are black-backed gulls, herring gulls, lesser gulls, black-headed gulls.......
Pedant mode now off
Oh, and if it thinks you are threatening it's babies, and it sh*ts on you, you are lucky, they usually go for your eyes with claws and beak

Oh, and they usually only puke on you if you climb up to the nest.
I am wary of them though incase they swoop down and carry me off to feed their young.
If they go for my eyes, they'll have to go through the camera lens too!
Maybe I'll post some more photo's over the next couple of weeks - unless everyone thinks it's a bad idea - I don't want to upset the Scoobynet massive do I

Indeed, they can't pass gas I've heard, not a nice thing to do to them though.
I had 'friends' onboard ship that used to throw them a chicken bone tied to a piece of fishing line - then then had a seagull kite as once the gull had swallowed it they couldn't/wouldn't regurgitate it!

trawler man mates of mine have further refined the tactic get a nice fish, tie it to some fishing line, tie line to large plastic bag, bird eats fish then flies off bag inflates and acts like a sail gull takes a nosedive, and for once the fish get some payback.

Even if the gulls are a nuisance, you really can'y blame them for following their natural instincts to find food.

No it isn't.
Like most pest species you can, for the time being at least (it is currently being reviewed), legally shoot Herring Gulls (and Lesser & Greater Black Backed Gulls) under the terms of the general licence providing certain conditions are met.

Gulls are vermin.
I've the unfortunate pleasure a couple of times now of seeing a gull attack a pidgeon and proceed to rip open its chest and start eating it.
The pidgeon was still alive, every time it would move the gull would peck it on the head a couple times more.

Though I have to say, there's something about gulls that I just don't like; possibly means they're just good at their job, a bit like sharks!
