Golden retriever. My aunt and uncle have always had one. The are the most gentle dogs you'll ever come across...excellent with kids. Much better than the strange variety of dogs people have these days.
As with kids though, it's how you bring them up.

Why would you want a dog that large around children..???
Non of the dogs you mention are for people that are inexperienced large breed owners,im guessing that your inexperienced or you wouldnt be asking the SN massive on a subject thats quite personal to ones taste..
Pitbulls are illegal in the UK anyway..
Huskys are not loyal and can be hard to control..there independant and strong willed, any training is hard work..
Akita's are similar, strong willed but also have a huge guarding tempremant unlike the husky. They will easily attack strangers and visitors if not properly trained..
Any other breeds your considering ?

I would personally have a doberman, but as I said, I would put every effort into being assertive with it and training it when it was a pup. Also socialising it constantly and keeping it's mind active.
Those dominant breeds start to cause problems when they are just kept in a house and fed. People think they can just be a pet that will hang around. But they get bored, frustrated and aggressive.
Unfortunately there seem to be more bad dog owners than good, dedicated ones.

The only time it will be with children is very rare, and even when it's around a child i will only be showing it to them, not leaving them alone with it, its allways going to be on a lead aswell when there around, it's only going to be me and my brother who are ever alone with it.

Why didn't you SAY you just wanted a tough-looking accessory? Get a tattoo, you don't have to feed it or clear up its "doings"; or even prevent it from tearing the faces off of the nation's toddlers.

Why do people always want dogs that can eat other people????
If you have kids and have had not much or no experience with dogs then get a small breed. I'd recommend a Lhasa Apso. Its a small dog breed which means less cost involved and they have a great nature. Weve had one for 7 years now and he's a lovely pet. These originate from Tibbet and are generally long haired but you can always have them groomed short which weve done for ours through the summer. Very good with children and an excellent guard dog (originally It was bred as an interior sentinel in the Buddhist monasteries, who alerted the monks to any intruders who entered)
Thats what I'd recommend. Here's what a puppy looks like;

None of the above breeds, they take alot of handling (just ask my mate who works in a dogs home), as stated, pitbulls are illegal and have been for over 11 years, the other 2 breeds are strong willed and you NEED to train them well, if you dont then they will be bad to both the owner and people around them, which means you will just have them taken off you and end up with a ban on dogs.
Think carefully what breed you want.

You did infer on your OP that the dog had to be good around children, its fair to assume that because you asked, that was a big issue for you..
Honestly,i wouldnt have any of the dogs you suggest..I think they any of them would become to much for you...
This could lead to aggresiveness and biting, which could destroy someones life..
I have had dogs for over 20yrs now..Started off with Springers,Rottweilers and now have a German Shepherd. And i wouldnt really take on any of the breed's mentioned, the amount of time and dedication needed to get that kinda dog 100% is immense..
BTW,if you try and keep a husky in the back garden,it WILL get out and will run till you never see it again..
Akita's are fighting dogs..they can be aggresive to other dogs and people...A bite off one of these when they have got there dander up will pull the face off a child.
Seriously, you need to reconsider what you need and why you need it.

I'd go for a Japanese Tosa. You'll stand out from the crowd and they simply love children (well parts of them anyway).
It would also get rid of any unwanted dogs that stray into your garden.
