can anyone tell me why the tower blocks a few hundred yards away, have pulsating green, orange, blue, red lights shining on the end of them. they seem to shining on phone masts or the top of stair wells, there was last night about half a mile away, i can see it theu the frosted glass in the shower room,
what are they for is it purely aesthetic?

there are three or four now in south manchester.

theyre not that kind of flashing for planes mate, they are like floodlights or halogen security lights that change colour every 10 seconds, they light up the little structure on the top like phone masts or lfit shaft roof's

It's carbon footprint related, this year you waste loads of electricity, so that next years figures look so much better !

The colours emitting from the masts is a phenomenon know as basestation tritiumflux, the more mobile transmission the greener the light, the less usage, the bluer the light is.

You will find it is brighter when it is raining, fine rain gives the best results.

If you climb the tower block you can actually capture some flux in a jar, but it depleates soon after you walk away from the mast, it will last about 15 minutes.

The best jar for the job is one with a rubber seal on the lid.

This above is the tower block over the road from me, as you can see the mobile transmission traffic is quite high today.

The flashing red lights are to alert aircraft of a high obstacle, flashing red for obstacles over 300ft high
