What the HELL has happened to pop music?
Just recently started to listen to the radio/MTV istead of my own collection.
I was HORRIFIED to hear an endless stream of either rap, or female singers.
Now I HATE rap with a deadly loathing, but I enjoyed the likes of Debby Harry and Blondie, and the Eurythmics, even Natasha Bedingfield.
But THESE talentless little biatches? They all seem to come out of the same mould.........silly "little girl" voices, singing contrived rhyming lyrics, (one this morning was "feeling fantastic, 'cos I got my plastic", every word meticulously pronounced and BORING, BORING, BORING. You couldn't sing along if you wanted I bet they all look stunningly sexy on the videos though
Is there anything else out there at the mo, or is this payback for years of "boybands"?
Back to U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, methinks.

Same thing, as far as I'm concerned, and again, the rhyming is soooooooooo forced, it beats ANYTHING my dad mocked, in 60's and 70's pop, into the ground for total inanity

Its pants!! Occasionally a good 1 comes along like Taylor Swift, but thats it. The majority of whats released now is not worth my time to listen.
Bring back the 80's and early 90's

I am also sing of screeching "homegirls" blathering on and thinking they are all pop megastars.
I hate pseudo RnB and can't stand most modern rap (I did like some older stuff like J5).
Occasional light though from the likes of Lily Allen, Goldfrapp and a few (not many) others.

Music at it's worst. As per the other thread. 80's music is sh1te. Always was, always will be.
Found some `Now` tapes a few years ago that me & my sister bought. God the music is cr@p. Wasn't really keen on music back then. I know why. It was sh1te.

So Stilover - what music DO you like?!
I like bits and bobs from most decades (pre 60s is pushing it though).
So good Dubstep stuff out and loads of decent chilled dance stuff about too - Kruder and Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation, Burial, etc, etc.

Check Burial, Skream and Boxcutter too... Proper abuse of speakers. One of mine fell off it's mount (I hadn't secured it properly) from the bass of a Burial track! Now fixed firmly back on!

Right i'm pretty much a YOOF but what the **** is Dubstep? It sounds sh*te without even listening to it?
Chart music is bollocks, La Roux, Kasabian and Take That are about the only highlights for me. I can't stand Dizzy Rascal and all that Mark Ronson/Daniel Merriweather bull****.

Our baby boy (9 months old) LOVES dubstep - he starts jigging to it the second I put it on - has been very handy recently when he's got a bit grumpy.
Luckily he also thinks most modern pop is ****e and doesn't react when he hears most of it (on the radio).

Images of Les, dancing to Pretty Flamingo.....
A lot of it is down to your perspective, your age, taste, mood etc and its funny as time marches on I get nostalgic for stuff I didnt like much at the time.
There is a lot of **** in the charts but there always has been, I too am sick of all the rap and RnB that gets played, very formulaic, vocoder, someone shouting Yo a lot and going on about being in a club, designer stuff, sex and booze, occasional thinly disguised reference to violence, yaaaawn but I suppose it must be relevant to those who buy it for whom Planet Rock is just old crusty blokes with guitars, kids wont get all misty eyed on Hearing Comfortably Numb, not yet, it will get them eventually.....

When I bought the Pug last year, I realised there wasn't the wiring which leads to the ariel, so haven't had a radio for a year... and to be fair, I don't really miss it.
Basically pop music now to me is just a blend of all the music genre's softened up to sell and appeal to the masses (cheese basically).
Good examples being the influx of pop-trance or pop-rap. Definitely cheesed out so they don't just appeal to the hardened followers anymore, and more to the sad 18-25 trendy brigade (some good examples in this years Big Brother household).
Some folk know I'm very into my trance & progressive music/choons, and very very rarely is it I hear something crossover now. Infact the most recent was something I downloaded 18 months ago, "Deadmau5 - I Remember". Belting track, 18 months ago, but all said cheesey trendies are now bopping along as if it is their long lost soul
In my scene now, the music is thriving and is something that guaranteed will pick me up on a bad day/week/month... the radio is obsolete as far as I'm concerned. Too cheesey and full of manufactured crap.
Just to add, a couple of folk on here have been transformed into my music style after requesting CD's... maybe not because they're tranceheads like me, but because the standard of music production in the clubs has really evolved now, say from 10 years ago. The productions coming out now are of a really good quality. Like in any other genre, for me, if it's a good quality production, I'll listen to it. This could be rock, rap... all sorts, just not commercialised pop bollocks.

It's been a very very long time since i went to a club due to the Trendy Brigade nothing worse that going into a club only to be greeted by RnB and fatties tryin to get their THANG on instead of some Funky/Dirty House or some hands in the air trance.

This is why I'm negotiating with the manageress at the bar I gave some CD's too, as I'd like to create a decent club night different to everywhere else in the town. The problem is similar to radio, the commercial stations try to cater too much for everyones needs, so play all genres, but mixed up. No styles or seperation, just a different radio DJ name who'll play the same as the previous DJ. admittedly radio 1 do some very good eclectic shows, like Annie Macs mashup and the late night stuff, but not enough during the day. All catered for said trendy brigade. So this was my angle of attack re. my DJ'ing, as all the clubs/bars round here do the same as any radio station, no build up or anything, just some dude with a cd player throwing a wedding disco together. Very similar.
