My God, what has this country come too?
I'm no fan of climate camp activists, they can go jump off a cliff for all I care.
But this is out of order:
Video: Arrested for asking a policeman for his badge number | Environment | guardian.co.uk
What in God's name has happened to our country?

DK says it better than I can here ... The Devil's Kitchen: No one expects the Spanish Inquisition in Britain
The longer this sorry lot are in power the worse this will be. Though I can't seen any of the so-called major parties doing anything about it. Hopefully come the results of a GE they won't be the major parties any longer ... here's hoping!

We're all well f****d, and this BB simply proves it by it's shady and overtly snide moderation. P**f et all and the lobster know it, if not you are all sadly complicit
Laters all anyway dweeb forum police, feel free to turn out the lights

Comparing a BB moderating team with 4 days locked up for asking for a policemans number. You think that's a valid comparison do you?

All I would say is be mindful of anti-police propaganda. Both women have a cause and to highlight their cause as many others would do in they place, a little bit of exeggaration goes a long way.
Yes, the arrest seemed hash do to police numbers, but were the women complying with the police requests? were they doing as they were asked? Questionable.
"We will do whatever is required to bring them to account!" Does that sound like someone looking for a fight?

I see no strikes, no punches, no kicks only a controlled restraining of a non-compliant protester.
I don't think we can judge on the video footage alone, I mean its alway nice when the footage starts off half way through and is edited with significant time gaps.
Also, lets big up the sympathy, mother of two, mother of three, I was supposed to be at home looking after my 4 year old. Press can make you take sides very easierly.

'controlled restraining of a non-compliant protestor' (protester even?)
I'd love this shi*e to be made completely legal for every literate UK citizen
Roll on the burglars and junkies, 'lets big up the sympathy'

Maybe if the ****** squad had worn some form of identification, or even communicated that information when asked, as is supposed to be a requirement of the job they are doing, the two women would not have acted in such a 'non-compliant' manner
If some belligerent thug in a high vis coat bearing no proper form of ID approached me in that manner, he'd get a smack in the mouth

I don't recall seeing any high vis coats?? Ha Ha
How do you know if the officer(s) in question didn't give identification? Did you see the missing parts of the tape? Police only have to give a collar number, myabe the "Ladies" wanted more and were aggrieved about not receiving further information?
I'm not taking sides, bu it bugs me that people/press tell half truths in an attemmpt to get public support, its nothing more than low class politics.

No I didn't see the missing part of the tape, but I heard clearly enough the bit where the copper told her that he didn't have to provide any form of identification to her
Those sort of people must be your lot's worst nightmare, watching and recording you breaking the law and broadcasting their observations

I'm staying clear of this thread for fear of being booted off scoobynet. Regardless of the 'spin' that might have been put on this footage I do know, from personal experience, that the police in this country are a joke. Lightening quick to judge, will severely bend the truth to advance their own cause and, often, the result of someone not knowing what to do with their life. I'd be proud as punch if a son or daughter of mines said they want to be a fireman or ambulanceman when they grow up....but copper - lol. They'd be living in the shed until they can find suitable digs of their own

Footage is still there.
Appalling behaviour by the police. The think they are above the law. Either that, or dont know the law well enough.
Remember the video of the two police being filmed, who then told the guy filming it was illegal to film police. They didnt know the law and anyone else would have believed them.
Maybe its our own fault for being too trusting or ignorant of the laws ourselves.

Seems a bit sinister that on normal duty, and officer in uniform will display a collar number, by which he can be identified.
But when on government business, (anti-protestors, anti-strikers etc etc, they REMOVE their collar numbers.
Now if any SERVING officer can explain THAT, I'd be happy to hear it.
Without a reasonable explanation, I'm afraid we are into the realms of Gestapo, SSD etc where the officers could pretty much do as they pleased without fear of retribution.
TBH, I've been saying for some time, "Trust the police about as far as you can chuck a car load, since they are now the bullies, enforcers and auxilliary tax-gatherers of whichever governmemnt is in power"
If YOU are on the force, and don't like that sort of comment, then get together with your colleagues and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. And I DON'T mean lean on those who disagree with your behaviour
Remember: "We were only obeying orders", cut no ice in 1945, and cuts even less now

Side with FlightMan on the eco-protestors, but the Police response is frightening.
A measured and appropriate response I think not. And refusal to provide identification
Thankfully no real harm done here, but incidents like these are rapidly losing the support of the law abiding majority. They're public servants, not masters after all.

This kind of crap has been going on for years, hopefully now that more and more people carry a device that can let them record things, this kind of corrupt behaviour will be stamped out.
it looks like the video was shot from the police mans perspective, do they all carry cameras?

Looks completely measured from here .
These mothers are there to film these 'off duty' 'coppers' and thats what they did - the footage did at least get out which of course it wouldnt in a more parochial state
im wondering why they were all in dark glasses and jumpsuits

Anyone is entitled to ask to see a copper's warrant card and he must also wear his number as identification.
This whole occurrence was a shameful indication of what we can expect should the egregious bunch we have in charge ever achieve their ambition of total control of the people.
So many police seem to be more interested in politics rather than protecting the public!

If this is completely measured then I would hate to see Police operating when they are not being completely measured.
It is clear that the 'off duty' officers did not want to play. Of course if they were of duty then a civil suit for assault would not go amiss.
On what basis were the women, allegedly, held for four days?
And the really telling thing - all charges were dropped. I am guessing because there was no basis for the charges to stick and the Police would not really want to see this evidence displayed in court as they may have to face charges too.
Of course, politically, public interest will be quoted.
There was some researcher for the Government and Police on BBC television recently saying that some draconian surveillance measures being brought in were supported by the public in the wider interest. Even though there was no research or any basis of actually getting a public mandate.
This is what a Police State looks like.
Spooky
