Default Office equipment question - fax machines!

OK, our ageing fax machine has taken its last beating from moi and I believe I've done it some terminal damage.

Looking at buying a new one either samsung or brother or whatever but I notice that the peripherals for the brother together with the toner cart says "Drum unit" which is more than half the price of the thing itself whereas the samsung just says toner cart.

Why does one manufacturer offer replacement drums whereas the others do not - would buying one that needs its drum replaced mean its working life would be longer?

We have a Brother fax machine here in the office and that just needs toner cartridges. It's been a decent machine, but it's getting tired now. Never needed a new drum for it though.

As with anything, you use the right tool for the job. Some things are quicker and easier to deal with by fax.
