Suppressing hunger
How the heck can you do it when the fridge is staring at you all day long?
Right you lot, i am not a fatty or anything like that but i am acquiring a tum and hips lately.
I am unable to do anything that is too energetic as i have a back problem and i think this is why i am putting on weight on my middle. I am getting bored and turning to the fridge for help.
This is what i eat on a typical day.
Sandwich spread on toast and scrambled eggs/or cereal for breakfast.
Cheese sandwich(mature, on white bread) mid morning.
More toast with sandwich spread.
Baked potato with beans, coleslaw and cheese for lunch.
Chocolate of some sort to fill a gap.
Another sandwich, this time with a bit of salad with my cheese.
Cooked meal for tea time always healthy.
Stodgy pudding for desert.
Lots of cakes and sweets and diet biscuits all evening.
I have had my cholesterol tested recently and was told it was low. I was hoping the result would be higher as this would have made me give up eating so much crap
I seem to have a high metabolism, but i am starting to notice i have put on a few pounds and cant shift them. I seem to be hungry all the time since i have not been working, am i eating to relieve boredom?
What is a good way to say no to the fridge as i have no will power?

Take advice off French TV:
"Evitez de grignoter entre les repas", or, in English: "Avoid snacking between meals"
TBH: do you REALLY NEED all that food unless you have a physical demanding job?
Oh, and fill your stomach with tapwater, works well

I know it sounds easy but its not. Its so hard not to eat the nice stuff.
I know what to do but i just cant do it. I keep telling myself that i will do it.
Next time i go shopping i always plan to buy only 'good' stuff but i am so easily influenced i just don't.
Why am i drawn to pale colored foods? I love yellow and white food.

Probably all that bread & cheese that's doing it, plus the after dinner stodge. How can you eat so much in a day ?? Change your snacky-type foods for something healthy like fruit or something

Maybe not with your back but use a basket rather than a trolley.
Try to get a handle on when you're thirsty as opposed to hungry, they can be mistaken.
Try to eat only when you're hungry, not when you're bored.
Don't eat habitually, if you're in the habit of having a biscuit with a cuppa or crisps in front of a movie, these are often easy wins, break the habit.
End of the day, it's all easier said than done and the only person who can really do something about it is you and you have to want it.
(and for the record, I'm not a patronising skinny person but a chunky working on it and the above all work for me)

Rule #1... Drink lots of water, keep your fluids topped up. If you are still eating, you are doing it because you are bored, NOT hungry. Get some self control lol.
For me at the mo.
Breakfast bowl of cereal
A pint or so every 60-90 mins (water/squash)
Lunch, chicken or pasta
More liquid.
Evening meal cereal again.
I might throw a sarnie in mid afternoon if im hungry, genuinly.
Either side of all that is 10km of dog walks in the morning and the same in the evening. (5km in the evening if the missus is helping)

Far to many carbs in that lot no wonder your putting on weight. Try having just eggs for breakfast and dinner maybe a salad and tuna. For tea look at fish or chicken, again try to drop the carbs with that meal. If you must have Carbs then make sure you do some form of exercise after eating and try not to eat carbs after 1pm.
Try these:
https://www.musclecharge.com/store/f...bs-eca-30.html
I take them when I need to drop the fat off and eat nothing but protean, I drop around 4 pounds a week as long as I train and do maybe 15 mins cardio.

I have read all of your replies and have come to the conclusion that drinking water is the way to go. I am half a stone bigger than i have ever been and its all round my tum and i hate it. Gone are the smooth lines i once had
I am going to drink water for the next two days and see what happens
If i dont post again you will know that i have passed out from lack of energy

Christ Sarah,
I spend hours in the gym every week, walk miles, cycle and don't eat that much in a day!
As you can't be as active due to your back, here's my advice
Water - if your hungry, have a glass. Every time you think you want a snack, have a glass of water. It works
Stop snacking between meals. Your body is used to you continually snacking. You need to break the habit.
Don't buy crap - if its not in the house, you won't eat it. Fill the house with fresh fruit and veg instead. Then if you have to snack, you are at least snacking on something decent
With your current diet, I expect to see Gillian McKeef at your door any day now :lol1, and you will wake up one day weighting 18 stone, and wonder WTF happened.

Cycle 14 miles a day, walk dog a mile or two, eat as much as I want and stay the same 2 stone overweight I have been for ages.
Suspect if I watched what I ate I would soon drop some, so activity is the key, sitting round starving waiting for the weight to come off doesnt work.
Just had lunch, Panini, Wasabit Peanuts and a rather large Bakewell Tart, was ravenous, tend to find when I am active I get very hungry, food doesnt sit on my stomach like it used to.

If I ate all that, I'd be really big! I'm no stick insect, but you eat alot more than me and I thought you were slim.
Get rid of white bread! It's evil!

Maybe i now have middle age spread and this is what happens
I have had 2 glasses of water now and am feeling fine, not hungry and i haven't had to pee yet...
BUT i love the taste of food

I would advise going from white to wholemeal bread. The Mrs nagged me to do this a while ago as I don't have very good bowels - the difference is brilliant. Toilet more regular and no more bloatiness from what I admittedly have as a crap diet.
I'm in the house most the time (obviously, being unemployed), but I only eat about twice a day, sometime three max. I never seem to snack unless I have some biscuits on a night time.
Another good thing to get you pooing is those yogurt drink things. I've been on the Asda home brand ones (special offer 8 for £1) and had 2 a day... just like having a yogurt snack, but you sip it and sh*t for England.
I swear if my diet was better I wouldn't be 14 1/2 st. @ 5"5, but if I ate what you did in a typical day, I'd need wider doors
Eat more pasta etc as it has energy built in if thats your worry.
Typical day for me would be...
Breakfast (anything between 6.30am-5pm) - Bowl of cereal or bacon sarny or a couple of steak pies.
Tea (anything between 12 midday-10pm) - Whatever I fancy, but a largish meal, like proceddes crap with a few chips, council house food as described by the snobs above
2 biggish meals a day, hardly any snacks, will change in Sept though when I'm more physically active.

Food is important too luv, water aint a diet lol.
But "apparently" hunger is a feeling we get when both hungry and in need of fluid, we are just crap at telling the difference.
After a good glass of water, if you are still having physical craving, the chances are you are hungry.
If you have a good balanced breakfast you should not be hungry for 4-6 hours later, same with all meals in fact. So if you are "hungry" between meals, chances are its in your head. (this can be different when you are very active)
If you are the sort of person to wait til you feel thirst to drink, then by that point you are already reaching a state of dehydration.
Keep the fluids topped up, your eyes off the fridge, and your mind busy. The fluids will help flush you through, and the decrease in food hopefully lead to some loss, slow and steady
Remember food intake is about require not desire. (most of the time anyway )

Cut out all the bread in your diet, it makes you feel bloated. I stopped eating bread 2 weeks ago & feel 100 times better, more energy & not bloated.
Like others have said, you are eating too many carbs, cut them out & get & do some exercise - the weight will drop off in no time at all.

Unless your diet is REALLY bad, exercise first, diet second.
We eat pretty healthily but aren't obsessive - those that are often seem a bit weighty.
As for white bread - we have it occasionally and recently won (me) and came 2nd (Mrs matt - of the women competing) in off road triathlons. Oh and we drink a bit pretty much every night too.
Has anyone eaten with special forces or commandos? They don't harp on about diets. Anyone seen what Ricky Hatton eats? Hardly cuts out white bread.
Diet schmiet.
