I think its fine until you start answering FOR the animal - especially if you use some silly sing song voice.
Then its time for the tranqs' and the jacket.

Harry, my beautiful cat, and I are always talking to one another. He loves me, hates everyone else in the house because they don't feed him. If he comes in the house through the cat flap, he meows and I call him and he comes running to wherever I am. He's such a darling. Much less work than a blooming kid!

I talk to my watches.
I also introduce new watches to my collection by seating them in tha safe next to another watch I think they will get on with.
I kid you not.

I will have another cat at some point. I will name him and he will be mine.

Depends what you mean by 'talk-to'....
I'll say stuff to him, which he understands - such as 'Here Stig!', 'walk', 'dinner', 'fetch', that sort of thing - maybe the odd phrase such as 'there's a good boy', 'wotcha want..' etc....
But don't hold conversations, if that's what you mean.
Tho.... sometimes he does look at me and make funny ''Rooo-aaah' noises, as if he's trying to talk - but probably just a doggy variation of an excited growl.

I talk to the cats all the time, just as I would to anyone else
I talk to the dog too, but usually as if I'm talking to a special needs kid
PS: Cat is really easy to learn, I know cat for; "Feed me, minion.", and also "Come on Dog, give it your best shot!"

If i am talking about one of my dogs i have to spell their name out so they don't know i am talking about them. Even now when i have to say, 'where is 'P' (Paris) she comes running even though i never said her name
I call the chickens 'my girls' so the dogs are well confused now

i talk to my pair of cockatiels. one male and one female. i quite often talk them for a while and when i get no reply its usually a f*** ya, you pair of ignorant gits! on the other hand, when the pair of them try to imitate the magpie or seagulls hen i'm the first to tell them to shut it! is it wrong that i try to get the male (named keano, for his temper when he doesn't get what he wants!) to rag the *** off the female (tilly)????
surely if i was stuck in that cage, i know what would be on my mind!! i think he may be gay?! or born without a ***** i wonder?

yep squaresy i talk to my 5 dogs, 2 cat and 2 budgies. 2 pups are head the *****, one of my cats is so lazy, the other cat takes no crap from anyone. side swiped one of the pups on the nose the other day. drew blood. the dog jumped about 4 feet in the air. i had to tell her off. my budgies reply when you talk to them for some reason. they never shut their mouth, always gabbing to each other.
