I thought this was always the case? A car I had about 6 years ago failed it's MOT because the towbar obscured the number plate. I had to take the blooody thing off to get it through (then put it back on cos I couldn't use my jetski otherwise.....

Errrmm - we have a removable towbar on the Jimny and very rarely have it on but it slightly obscure the reg plate when fitted. Had it done properly and it was a bit pricey. Hope we are okay with that?!

the MOT testers only test what they can see, so if you have dodgy ***** just remove them,
in the same way that if you have a cracked foglight lens they will fail you, however if you tape over both foglights, they will pass it

Strange, I've got a hole in a front fog light, have had for the last 6 years. Never failed an MOT because of it.

It's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. All they need to do now is to bring in a bi-yearly "MOT" for Caravans and Large Trailers, and extend the requirement for the Cat E licence to everyone including pre-98 licence holders; and we'll go a long way to getting rid of the unroadworthy trailers, caravans and those idiots who like to put them on their side every bank holiday because they don't know what they are doing.

Correct my mistake -- (in fact it was the additional driving lights on my MK11 Golf, one wasn't working so taped them both up)
but I think my point stands -- if they can't see it they can't test/fail it
