Default HD TVs

I think I'm going to bit the bullet and buy a Sony KDL-37W5500 tomorrow, along with blueray DVD player.

It has a monitor connection on the back and I wanted to know if a normal PC can dislpay video in HD format?

Even basic PC's with decent graphic cards can generate resolutions beyond HD ready and even Full HD.

You need to check that the TV resolution/refresh rate and those your graphics card output are compatible - ideally you need dvi/hdmi output on PC but TBH most do work over the old analogue connections.

Just ensure its a proper 1080p tv with the correct 1080 resolution and not a 786 one
Good buy though have a sony bravia 40 inch 1080p and yours should have a pc channel on the av button(s)

I'm buying mine local, may be costing a bit more but I feel I'm helping local business. Plus they are going to install if for me, and do the cable management.

It's a 5 year warranty. To be honest I feel it's a good deal, TV, glass stand, DVD player, 3 DVDs, installation - £1150.

Only ever buy Sony stuff. I can use 1 remote, and I don't have to compare with other manufacturers. A panny may well be better for a TV geek, but this is part of my "front room decoration budget".

If you're coming from a projector TV then be prepared for the stand alone shíte sound.

It's like comparing a pub jukebox to a portable TV.

One more question.

I have a media player, but clearly I'd make life easier with a media player with a HDMI cable. Can anyone recommend one?

Something like this I guess?
500GB HDMI Media Player with Record function > Maplin
