CICJ Working Rule Agreement rate for a General Operative is £7.75/hour.

Some places probably pay less than that for a basic labourer though.

down here we pay £7.99 to the agencies for our labradors, they get about £6.70 of that in their pocket.
Thats a general labourer who will clean, lift, shift, dig, paint etc

if you want I can get the same rate wherever you are by calling the agency in question and getting them to match the rates.

I wonder why he is charging it plus the vat, I used to get £10 per hour for labouring, good times and it was bloody easy too

What exactly do you want doing?

its what is already been done that is the problem, (no problem with the labourers)

had a chap doing some repairs on a property and caused no end of stress, it went fine with the clear out by the labourers, its just when all the other Muppets come in that caused the problem, any told him not to bother coming back just send us the bill for the work done, which has come in and is steep for what they haven't done!

£10/hour + VAT sounds a reasonable charge out rate to me. We charge ours out at more than that.

An employee on just the CIJC WRA £7.75/hour basic rate I posted earlier will have a prime cost to the employer £9.71/hour for the (assuming standard) hours he works.

A typical mark up for charging out is in the region of 115% on the prime cost of employed labour - which is accepted in the industry as the rate of pay, plus an allowance for NI, holiday pay, insurance / pension scheme, CITB levy, overheads, etc.

WRT charging plus VAT - if he's VAT registered, he has to.

always get a job price as apose to paying an hourly or day rate at lest then you know thats the price regardless. plus good firms wont be the cheapest because of overheads tax vat etc. allways get references.
bottom line pay peanuts you get monkeys that end up costing you more in the end!
