Gran Torino Ending, Caution Spoliers !
Great film, but when Clint got shot by the trigger happy gangsters and the Policeman said they were all going away for a long time.
What would the actual legal situation be ? I appreciate things may differ between here and the US but several people all with guns shooting the same victim, some with similar/same weapons, potentially hundreds of shots fired, how would they prove murder, would they need to, some of the shooters may have missed so surely even ballistics evidence would get confused,
Bullets pass through,
Bullets Ricochet
Who would have the first fatal shot attributed and would subsequent shots be discounted as they were effectively shooting a corpse ?
How would they proove who had what gun assuming they all handled the weapons ?
Is there a law or precedent for such situations ?
Over here they would all get off and get given a Council House, compensation and some extra benefits for the Stress caused.

I don't think it was a lame ending, most people were probably just expecting a typical Clint ending where he goes and shoots up the bad guys.
What appears to have happened is when he was having tests in hospital he's obviously been told he has some terminal illness and is dying, he then figured out a way to die on his terms and also save this young boy from a murder charge.
I thought it was a very good film

To answer the original question though I would suspect they would be able to tell who held each weapon by checking fingerprints and they'll be able to identify bullets in his body and which weapon they came from.
I wouldn't think they could establish which bullet killed him so they'd all be up for murder.

either all up for murder or at least attempted murder. I guess it's the same situation for these drive by shootings etc. Even the yanks would think of a law that would get people off who had the intent to kill.
Great film by the way. Clint is superb in it. Loved how they handled the race issues in it.

all culpable as they were all in the murder. none of this "which bullet caused the death" sh1te that you get over here. each one gets a life sentence or death penalty depending in what state they are in. i saw it on CSI so it must be true.

Doesn't quite apply but there is the concept of transfer of intent/malice; that is if a person shoots another with the intent to kill them but being a **** poor shot misses his intended target hits another and kills them he cannot wriggle out of a murder charge by saying it was an accident and that he had no intent to kill the final victim.
