Default Our cat has just been run over :(

I know that some of you followed my post a while ago when we lost our first cat in a hit and run. Well we got a new cat and some of you lot may even remember when I posted up some pictures of Charlie.

Well came around the front of the house this evening to find some girls at the bottom of my driveway shouting and asking people who's cat it was . My heart sank, I felt sick and ran out into the road to find poor charlie in the middle in obvious pain

We rushed him to the vets and the news is not good. It seems he got hit in the head and so may have brain and head damage. It is touch and go whether he makes it or not. He has been made comfortable and we are just waiting for the phonecall now...

The ****ing ******* who hit him didnt even slow down and was, according to the girls who saw him hit our cat, speeding like the ****ing **** that he is
If I could get just a few minutes alone with the ****er, then it would make up for all the hurt that **** has put us through tonight.

I cant believe that we are going through this again

Sorry to spout off like this, I am devastated

Fingers crossed for Charlie

How can someone hit a pet animal and not stop. They surely must have known.

Sorry to hear it mate.

When I was a kid my dog was knocked down and I was devastated. She pulled through, though after being touch and go.

Fingers crossed for you.

Sorry to hear that Chris. I'm not a cat lover, but any family pet being put through unesessary pain is a horrible experience for the owner.

Hope the little fella pulls through bud

Sorry to hear, very sad indeed.

Have you, legally, got to stop if you hit a cat/dog?

Thanks to all your kind thoughts, it really does help believe me.

Right now I am sitting here numb and just cant believe this has happened. Luckily my two boys were not with us to see him in such pain but unfortunately our little girl was and bless she was so brave at the vets when I was in pieces.

Just dreading the phonecall now from the vet....

Very sorry to hear that and hope that for once a miracle does happen and Charlie makes a full recovery. I have two cats myself and despite what some people say about cats on here they are amazing creatiures and I would be so upset if this happened to either of them.

As for the moron who did not even bother to stop ... well what goes aorund comes around!!!

Father Ted is wrong.... you only have to stop for animals that have to be legally registered (like dogs used to be)

Read my last, edited post.

You're wrong.

(8) In this section "animal" means horse, cattle, ***, mule, sheep, pig, goat or dog.

[Road Traffic Act 1988, s 170 amended by the Road Traffic Act 1991, Sch 4].

No cat in there.

Again, not the place to argue.

Maybe next time eh? Dick

Cats dont come under law as they are not classed as being domesticated (ie they just go wonder anywhere unlike other animals) so sorry to hear about your cat happened to mine when I was a kid, poor thing though this is the way with cats, free roaming, but no driver should be driving like an idiot (like the guy a few weeks back doing 70+ in a 50 zone on the m/way where there were roadworks, I missed the hare, he sent the poor thing flying )

Irrelevant to this thread.... I do feel for Chris as I know what it is like to have a pet taken in this manner........ this issue of stopping was raised and i gave my opinion based on what GMC police advised me

Sorry to hear this hun.

Hope he pulls through. FFS, what is it with people these days, could have said something to somebody. I'm not a big cat fan, but jeez, I wouldn't want to wish one harm, or stand by and ignore one that was hurt.

Swiss & family,

I am really really hoping you get some good news about this - you are always making people laugh and smile on here, and to see an animal you clearly care about in pain is a horrible experience.

It's incredible how our little people can often be stronger than us at a time like this - as you say your little girl was yesterday.

I too know how devastating it is to loose a cat in this way, I was 'lucky' that it was someone local who, although left the scene, sent her husband straight round to see if anything could be done.

Unfortunately it couldn't, and as someone said, it is like losing a member of the family (though I wouldn't miss some of my extended family as much as I do my cat!)

Take this message as a big hug reaching out from our family to yours & we are praying Charlie is okay. x

Well it has been a horrible night so far. Went to bed around midnight and both of us were upset because Charlie always used to come to bed with us and sleep at the bottom of our bed..that was bad enough and now I am back up at some god forsaken hour because I cant get back to sleep .

God knows what today will bring in terms of a phonecall or not from the vet.
We may have to make the painful decsion to let him go if he worsens and even if he does make it through (which is doubtful), then there may be long term suffering on his part which I cannot abide.

I am overcome with part sadness and rage and just need to try and take my mind off the fact. I guess that the rage part is just natural but I feel like trying to track down the gutless individual who was speeding and dish out my own personal justice. See how he/she likes it.

The trouble is on our road , there is a speed limit of 40MPH but it is quite hard to enforce because only one side of the road is residential. The other side is all farmland and fields with no houses and a straight road. So it is a haven for bikers and motorists who want to speed up and down
I have told my kids that on that road they would not even get a second chance but it still fills me with dread that anything could happen.
I feel like buying a fake speed gun and high viz jacket and going out there and scaring the crap out of speeding *******. Probably get arrested.

Anyway I do appreciate all your kind words and thoughts, it certainly has made it easier for me and Zoe and I will keep you lot informed of any news.

Thanks
Swiss

Swiss,

Firstly, if you have to make the decision, however hardit is, you know it's the right thing - that is what I had to do, and I know in my heart of hearts no animal deserves to suffer.

On a lighter note - if you will forgive me that, a local chap has put a scarecrow up in his garden (but you could have a word with the farmer opposite) and put a hi viz jacket on it. He also make a mock speed gun from a plastic bottle (recycling?) and apparently it has had a huge impact on reducing speeding where he lives.

As it's a scarecrow, I don't believe it could be illegal...................?
