I think it has something to do with the dvla sending their licence back and the removal of the part where they are allowed to ride a bike/bikes.The dvla were or are being awkward about reinstating the licences.

If worried about health and safety then why join an organisation that a high percentage of the public do not like......
Get a fast bike and watch the police cars disappear behind you....

There is more to it than is documented in that link.
The Honda bikes are prooven to be dangerous, and officers have been killed/seriously injured riding them.
Not so long back an officer was on a training ride and overtook a highsided vehicle, the control of the bike was lost and he was killed.
The stability of the Honda bike was in question.
As for these bikes being fast....they are not, not compared to a modern sports bike anyway.

I was under the impression most Police ST1300s (the ones that weave) have been sent back. As the weave is not a new issue with them.
The problem with H&S isn't with the Hondas specifically; its all the sodding equipment loading on the damn things (especially the side panniers).
The Pan Euros and BMWs are both very heavy bikes in standard form - to dollop on a load of stuff for police use raises its centre of gravity, making them a very heavy and a very difficult to manouver bike. I recall ages ago Chris Barry tried riding one on a test ground and dropped it a number of times due to its sheer weight and inability to lean at slow speeds (at least the side panniers stop your legs being crushed).
I do have to wonder why Police bikes need to carry all the junk....back in the 1960's (ok I wasn't born then ) a BSA A10 Flash (like the one in heartbeat) would just a have box on the back for the phone and thats about it, so really was no heavier than a normal A10. Probably could outrun a Panner too

The weave was caused by all the extra equipment - i got the impression that the Pan European was not that bad, this replaced the aging BMW which was by all accounts a feckin' nightmare above 100 mph
