Default Barnsley, I need a place to stay.

I need to book a hotel for a weekend for a wedding reception. I have never visited the place so i am a bit lost. Hopefully someone on here can recommend a nice place to stay

Are there any nice places in Barnsley?

Not from what i can tell
Went there looking for a house a few weeks back . Having spent a fair chunk of the day there i plan never to go back.
Enjoy the reception - i'm sure there will be a nice hotel somewhere

Tankersley Manor is nice - mainly because it's not in Barnsley. Don't forget your stab-proof evening wear, and try not to reveal a shandy-drinking southern accent if at all possible.

Its not too far out of town but far enough to be safe!!

Tankersley Manor I can recommend (got married there) but you could also try Brooklands Welcome To Brooklands home of the famous Barnsley Chop (its a double lamb chop - nothing to do with violence).

Otherwise a little further away is the Cedar Court just off junction 39 of the M1.

You could also try the Ardsley House, Barnsley Hotels, Barnsley Hotel Holiday Accommodation if none of the others are any good.

I have just found this and i am confused now. If i book a Travelodge on the M1 north bound the room is cheaper, yet is is only across the road

Is this the great north south divide?

Wakefield Woolley Edge M1 Southbound £45
Wakefield Woolley Edge M1 Northbound £39

Travelodge - Search and book

If anyone sees me crossing the M1 please be careful

Bit of a generalisation that! Its no different to any town or city up and down the country really.

Oh yes it is! Its a s**t hole full of rough blokes and even rougher birds. They knock lumps out of each other every saturday. Ive got a few friends from Barnsley and I refuse to go out there now because, without exception, there will be fights (not one) every night you go to tarn!

There are some nice people from Barnsley too but they are far too bright to be in town on a night.

Its the same as many old pit communities, they still live in the dark ages where its acceptable to beat up 'ar girt cos dinners not ont table.....hence my comments about Nottingham....they hate anything to do with Nottingham because of the minors strike. I was talking to someone that has not spoke to their old best mate for 25 years!!

Sorry, back on topic.

Go northbound as the exit to come back down is only a few hundred yards up.

Where was we?

Are you giving me directions for the Ramada? Do you know what it is like?

I am glad to say that my aunt is a southerner but the dick she is marrying is a knucklehead bruiser from Barnsley. Cant choose your family

Is Barnsley really as bad as they say?

Should i swap the scoob for a Datsun or something?

Swiss, i will dress accordingly

Obviously you lot haven't been up here recently. We went into town last Friday and didn't see one fight. There weren't enough people out to start one! Blah Bar at 10pm on a Friday night and there were 6 of us in I kid you not! The older pubs were busy with older customers but the fancy modern ones were dead!

Everyone knows someone that's been in a fight somewhere on a night out regardless of where you go in the UK, most of the time they haven't happened when something as simple as spilling a drink has occurred either!

My mate (a copper from Birmingham) was surprised at how friendly everyone was, said it's completely different to what he's used to back home.

Where's the wedding? We got married at Brooklands, I would have suggested that for staying over. Their chop is rather good too.

It does sound like a very depressed place

She is getting married in the Town Hall. We have two receptions, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, two different venues. I suppose we will lose the very p1ssed ones between receptions

Town hall?? I hope they got rid of 'Thatcher is a ****' that was on one of the walls outside

Not been for about a year purely because of the trouble and it was worth the trouble.....it was like some board game.....dont spill your pint on some bird, get glassed, go directly to hospital!
