Night out in Chester
Im having a night on the town in Chester at weekend, can anyone advise on where is good to go, where to avoid and a hotel that is a suitable walking distance for my stilettos to handle.
Btw im 26, love decent music such as old school, old classics and up to date chart. I love to dance and i also like gay bars (but im not gay)

There used to be a few gay bars, but not sure what has happened to them. I'll ask in work tomorrow as some of the people are Chester folk.
Not sure what it's like for a dance nowadays as I stopped going out in Chester some years ago.
Some good bars like Off the Wall, there's a Wetherspoons if you want cheap booze to start.
Chester is dead small though, none of the bars are more than 5 minutes walk from each other.
It was rough a few years ago, not sure what it's like now.

Thanks Geezer, i stayed in Queensferry a few weeks ago and it was just full of take away shops and a huge Asda and people there were saying Chester is the place to go. Its just daunting when you dont know anywhere or what its like.

I don't like Chester. I used to go When I lived in Wrexham.... it's expensive and you have to walk for ages to get anywhere. Awful night if it's raining!

It's still a rough ****hole (in terms of the people) unfortunately. I work in Chester and won't go out round there if I can help it. Got a black eye last time I went because 2 lads didn't want to queue for the cash machine. There's also nowehere decent to go. If you want to drink late, I think your choices are The Living Room or the strip club (which is full of fat mingers). Hate it. Go to Liverpool, it's much better.

Chesters CRUISE NightClub is the place to be just now, difficult to get in though, Google it for pictures, it has 5/6 themed roomes on 2/3 floors.
Keep away from Branigans, WetherSpoons, and anything with an Irish name.
The Loaf is OK two floors, and late bar.
Chester is a place where the Welsh go for Parties/Stags/Hens Rugby bashes, they go in gangs of 30-40 and get bladdered.....hate the place, worked there for four years and would not go for a night out unless I had too.
PS. Nothing against the Welsh, just that they are a pain in the **** when in large coach groups pi55ed up.

there are two really old ones by the river.
and one really trendy one with sort of bedouin tents you sit in in the pub garden, that was really smart.
glad i had the firms credit card that night

Yoza, as a welsh lass myself I can honeslty say Chester is not somewhere welsh people flock too. LOL, well unless I missed the bus.
Wrexham is only a 10 min drive from my parents (as I live nowhere near there anymore) so it wasn't exactly like going anywhere special.
But I agree it does seem to be groups of girls/lads getting pished and looking to cop off.

I was surprised when i went to Chester tbh, i got (wrongly) the impression that it was some upmarket place with a fantastic vibrant nightlife.
I realised it was full of p***ed up t**ts spoiling for a fight, in fact some little fat agressive scouse geezer picked a fight with this doorman, smacked him full on in the face, then started moaning and threatening him with the police when the doorman dropped him on his ****.
I've been to a lot of rough places - Oldham is like the wild west on a Friday night but Chester i was dissapointed with.

Lo,
I have to be honest i don't think it's any worse than other cities and I have been there loads of times.
Telfords Warehouse is a nice starting point and you can walk down the town from there past Rufus Court, (which has a great Italian - Bollicini's and a couple of other good eateries).
The Fat Cat is worth a look and has good bands/acts on weekends. Other places include the Amber Lounge and Slug & Lettuce and a few other pubs on Upper and Lower Bridge St.
Been there with the good lady a lot and never seen any real bother, (mind you, she is pretty hard )

Chester has really gone downhill in the last few years, depends what you like, I guess. People from Queensferry saying that Chester is 'the place to go' is no recommendation....................Queensferry doesn't even have a pub
Liverpool is best, then Wrexham.
So, in Chester, the only real nightclub is Cruise.............doorstaff can be tw%$s though. There is a gay bar on City road just down from the train station and will prob have a DJ - its called either the city bar or nu wah, never sure lol (also within staggering distance of the mill hotel, 200 yards?). You should def go to Watergates bar on Watergate street (in a crypt); there are several others worth a punt in this street e.g. a Cuban type bar with a DJ - generally the more upmarket end of town. Amber lounge, living room are OK, a bit pretentious. Duttons winebar is quite good, relaxed but busy but not too busy. Also have usual Slug and lettuce type fare. Couple of pubs on the river......................not great tbh.
Chester doesn't really have a 'dance-music' scene, as others have mentioned above Loaf (or the gay bar I mentioned above) might be your best bet.
If your'e fit I might be persuaded to give you a guided tour
Have a good night!!
dnc
PS Good tip is to get hotel in Chester as Taxis are at a premium and some folk don't like queuing if you get my drift
If it is races day I would avoid like the plague, full of pissed gob****es, everywhere packed, no fun.

Matt W, so your a Wrexham lad???
I am a Wrexham lass!
I must say back in the day Chester was great, I can emember many an afternoon spent down by the river while I was 'courting' a young gentleman..... we would find a nice spot for a meal in the early evening and then a few drinks, it was all quite nice. From the few visits I have made in the last year or so, it gives me a total different impression. the price of a drink it a rip off, so I have no idea how ANYONE gets drunk!
For that reason the girls expect the blokes to all be minted and go out all tarted up to snag themselves a a rich bloke! You will spot them a mile off!
It used to be quite proper 'back in the day' with a full dress code for many places, but I think that is long gone now. On that note, it might be worth finding out if the places you are going to have any type of dress code, you never know.

...................I'm not as expensive as the drinks in Chester .
Seriously though, I have never seen Chester as being over-priced. It is a city, albeit a small one, with maybe city prices. I guess the £74 round for 10 must have been cocktails or triples etc in one of the more expesive places. You ca have a good night out on a decent budget, just depends what floats your boat.
Let us Cestrians know how you get on, have a good one.

As an ex-Cestrian from a long time ago this all brings back a lot of memories - Telfords, Clavertons, Watergates, Boat House etc. Anyone here went to school at Christleton?
And let's be honest, it's always been rough at night.
Blimpers anyone?
