Hitting A Bird (Winged Variety)
Travelled to Devon this weekend and had 2 near misses with birds on dual carriage ways.
Both times the bird realised it was going to hit and just avoided it at the last second!! The second one looked like a large owl
Was travelling at 80+ so would have done a lot of damage
Hit a pigeon before at much lower speeds, but even that went through the numberplate and into the radiator
Anyone else hit one?

I hit a pigeon a glancing blow once and it left a perfect dust print on the screen but flew away afterwards. Must have smarted tho.
Look on you tube for the evo that hit the seagull, that made a mess.

The parents had a Buzzard come through the windscreen of a Mini in the 70's.
Now Mini's aren't the biggest of cars, and this came through talons first.

Car in front on dual carriage way clipped a seagull over the weekend , did his best to avoid it - but he was having that dead rabbit come what may
I almost felt sorry for him as he sort of cartwheeled sideways and landed somewhere behind my car
..well i did untill i was woken up by his bros squaking their beaks off at 3.30 am
i passed by on the same road yesterday and all thats recognisable are the red/yellow legs

I once saw half a rabbit still trying to pull it's broken body across a carriage way with another rabbit beside it sniffing it
I drove on for a mile, but then turned around to go and finish it off. By the time I got there, it was a completely flat rabbit and bouncing across the fields with the black rabbit of Inle.

Hit a few wood pigeons over the years; no damage, just a bit of blood, LOTs of feathers, and blocked intercooler
Very nearly hit a Pheasant which jumped out of a henge on a blind bend. I was doing 60mph and figured that would damage the car and knew nothing was behind me, so did a full on emergency stop. Still impressed at my reaction speed - as were the passengers
Suffice to say, BMWs do emergency stops far far better than Imprezas If I was driving the latter, I would have been looking at some bodywork repair bills shortly after - especially after finding the cold performance of the "fast road" pads I was using was grossly inferior in stopping performance.

I hit a herring gull, big seagull to you townies, on my Honda CB250RS at about 40-45, it splatted on the nice hot engine. It smelt like bad fried chicken for weeks.

I was once 'stalked' and swooped on half of the way home back to Helensburgh from Glasgow, late at night, by a feckin massive Barn Owl or something akin to that. Made me laugh llike a bastid all the way home, made a change from the usual

Travelling from Gateshead to Richmond Castle to fit a Stairlift,we hit a Grouse about 75mph.Smashed the hell out of the Windscreen.Pulled over to hard shoulder,i was covered in glass. It hit directly where i was on the passenger side.Phoned Gaffer, and he told us to carry on and start the job, then i would drive back and get replacemend screen fitted.
Pulled into Ricmond Castle, and there was a group of 6-7 yr olds on a school trip..a few were pointing at the van,and after that a few started crying.
Little did we know the Grouse was still wrapped around the front of the roofrack.
Into a bag it went, and my Boss had a great Supper that night.

We thought that too, but the canopy on the B(I)8 Canberra sticks up above the fuselage so its a bit more vulnerable. We used to get more in the engines as Janspeed said, but the Avon engine was pretty resistent to them thank goodness.
