HAs SN taken a step backwards with the ADULT section
just want to guage opinion. a lot of people on here including kids. i have been in and while some of the posts in the thread are work safe the vast majority are not. i know people have a choice in NOT entering the forum but i cant help feeling people will see this as a step backwards.

All harmless tbh, I enjoy the work safe stuff and didnt mind looking at it in NSR but I doubt I'll be found hanging around in the Adult section, especially after seeing NS04's post last night. If I want to look at stuff like that SN would be the last place Id be looking when I have the power of the internet at hand

Pointless section IMHO, designed to make a few £'s and nothing else.
90% of the internet is ****, why does SN need an adult section as well, and why would anyone want to pay to view it?
Bizarre.

A bit of conflict for me, I can understand that there is no need for the section on a car forum but I can understand that we are all adults and we can decide if we want to enter.
I am sure it will make a few more members pay up so they can enter, but we have to understand this is a business.
If it was'nt for the fact I will wonder in there from time to time I would'nt be so firmly planted on the fence.

Pointless IMO, it's a car forum not a **** site.
If there's a way of turning off that section i'd appreciate it as we normally just click on the "New Posts" button and this shows up all the threads in the Adult section.
Might be on slightly shaky legal ground allowing users to access this section without any 18+ warnings. I realise there are warnings on the main forum list but none when accessing via search or the New Posts button.

As for the business side of things you know what they say "sex sells" but it IMHO it seems a tad grubby entering a "well repected" car forum just to see hardcore porno.

Personally speaking, I see it as an aim is to keep NSR tidy; because some people found the limits set by the main forum rules are too restrictive. Those limits set out in the main forum rules infers that levels of decency are set by what would be considered as decent when measured against contemporary community standards. In other words what is acceptable by the community as a whole or people in general (in short, no nudity).
In brief; the existance of the adult section is in aim to keep NSR as a decent area suitable for all people, be it kids or people at work. People now have better more defined warning of what they will expect to see when browsing particular areas of the forum.
Look at it this way; if your employer finds you looking at, or your web cache containing indecent images by inadvertantly clicking into a thread within NSR or user group, you could be in with the sack (dependant on company policy). So, I see it as a step forward to protect people from such an occurance, as putting NWS in a thread title is not always enough (not everyone knows what NWS means), and people wanting to post such content can now do so if they want to.
As far as I'm aware, the adult section will be moderated in accordance with UK law as a bare minimum: [http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2008...#pt5-pb1-l1g63

I can't get access to it, nor would it appeal to me .... not in my advancing years!
It would/should have the effect of removing Adult content from NSR, and, as such, should make it more 'safe' for children reading.

I don't think SN is the right place for it, and IMHO is not wanted. As many of you have said it's not suited to the forum.
It's purely a £ generator (not perhaps users paying to view, but the adverts it will generate).
The stuff which is frequently posted in NSR is page 3 style. Not perhaps work safe, but certainly not pornographic.

I've handed in my "Orange Member" banner to show my disgust at IB instigating a hardcore pornography section in this BB. It's fecking disgusting and lowers the entire tone of this site that has always professed to be a "car enthusiast site" rather than a pathetic **** portal.....

^^^ what Ali-B said^^^
Like any other forum on SN, some will like it, others won't. Furry muff! Just give it a wide berth if it doesn't interest you!
It is absolutely NOT a money making scheme!! No-one is going to subscribe to SN purely for access to risque material when there are ENTIRE websites that offer that kind of content for free! If anyone PMs me, I might even suggest a few for you, just to show there are no hard feelings!
The reason it's paying only members are:
a) To keep the access restricted to adults
b) To stop the spammers
c) To stop the trolls
It's not all about grot either!!! The simple fact is that some material that people would like to post on here is not suitable for open forums that can be freely accessed by minors. It's about making sure that the free access forums are suitable for families as well as providing a place for people to post adult material.
It also pays to have a section where people can let it all hang out a bit more without worrying if a) they are going not to offend people of a more sensitive disposition and b) be conducting themselves in a manner inappropriate for children (swearing, suggestive or crude language etc, NSFW humour).
Of course, as soon as you have this kind of forum on open access, quite apart from the issues of keeping minors and spammers out, there is a danger that the trolls will jump all over it and make ruin it! Almost invariably trolls are cowards who hide behind anonymity and will only ever use accounts where they could not be held accountable for what they say.
It's very early days, but we're making sure that SN provides for those who only want family safe material and those who like a more adult orientated area i.e. we're catering for a large and diverse audience, which is what we always try and do!
I'm already impressed with the atmosphere in the adult room: it's fun, irreverent, naughty, but good natured! I look forward to seeing some of you in there!
For those of you who are paying members who want the option to remove access to the adult forums for any reason, we're looking into the best way of this. Can't say fairer than that!
As for this nonsense about IB or Stu making a it more of a priority to provide an adult forum than address other important issues, frankly that's insulting to the guy who has bent over backwards to make SN a better place for EVERYONE....and succeeded admirably IMHO.
Call me an A** kisser if you like, but I wouldn't moderate on a site if I didn't believe in it's content and leadership!

Personally - indifferent, although it's a shame to have come to this.
...But, if it keeps NSR clean for access during work then yes, it's a good thing. The wider question being asked by a few people is why has this move been necessary? Many other BBS wouldn't have tolerated what is posted on SN, elsewhere, I've seen people banned for bad spelling
- Would it be better if the forum didn't exist and the Ts&Cs were tightened (and enforced)?
- Would it be better if it was subscription only and subscribers had an "SN Perv" badge?
- Why does it feature so prominently towards the top of the bbs lists? Surely it should be down with the likes of computer related?
Sinky, you probably should have done a poll on this thread

Instead of paid members only. Why not have it so people who have been on here for years (Cough) can get access too?
You have to request admission. I'm clearly over 18, but I'm not a paid member.

I don't think I'd expect anyone to pay for the sole aim to specifically use the adult's section, but there are reasons for it. To skim off what NS04 said. These are the primary reasons for making the adults forum available to paying members only.
A couple of extra points I'd like to add, which are from a personal veiwpoint:
I'm not sure if any of you guys actively use other popular free forums that allow adult content. But I know some of which I tripped across have had problems with spammers, as in people registering to post links to their own **** sites who get money via refferals. Essentially it clutters up the forum with random **** and links to paysites or sample sites that lead onto them. The forum upgrades closed the door to alot of automated spam, so we don't want to open another one for them.
Additionaly, and quite importantly for me, is that alot of **** sites contain excessive pop-ups, and are a danger to your computer's security due to risks of viruses, adware and browser hijacks. Whilst paid membership doesn't stop a user inadvertanly posting a link to a site riddled with viruses, it does help to stop spammers or people with malicious intent from registering and intentionally linking to damaging content.
Something, even as a moderator I do not want to deal with, as potentially moderating an open adult section of this forum which would be subject to this kind of abuse could lead to my computers being infected. No thanks.
If someone finds that this new section causes issues with their internet usage policy, please let us know and we can try and see if we can find ways round it.

i toatlly agree with you re Stu. he has put a lot of hard work into making SN one of the best resources for subaru enthusiasts in the world. not many ppls can say that, but i can't help thinking as you say the trolls and other keyboard warriors out there will use it as a dumping ground to **** about and generally make ar$eholes of themselves.

Whats more unpleasing for me, is the fact that what people load onto their private SN library, gets shown on the main forum page at the top of the screen, normally not a problem, but Im constantly seeing what Valley Commando has uploaded. Plesant ladies yes but Im at work, I dont want them on the screen! At least with other forums and stuff like BOTW threads, I get a choice at what I look at

I have wanted an adult forum on here for a long time because every time somebody posts something a little too risqué we get RTM's asking for it to be deleted as "it's disgusting" etc etc. Then what usually happens is that we delete the offending material and then get moaned at for deleting it. The adult forum gives us the option to remove unsuitable material from the accessible side of the forum whilst keeping it available to view by those who wish it to remain.
In essence what we're aiming to do is please everyone
The unofficial Scoobynet moderators motto has long been "We're damned if we do and damned if we don't" and I think that applies nicely to the subject of the adult forum.

Lets be very clear about this: this is in NO WAY saying that people who aren't paying members are trolls/or potential trolls, rather that the vast majority of trolls will be non-paying members IYSWIM.

Don't know if I would go that far. Jon44w operate a "puppets2" section that you have to be given permission to enter by the site administrator. If you don't have permission the forum doesn't even show up in the list of forums you can enter. I think this would be better than always visible to anyone.
