Barring rust and wear/loose or physical damage not much it can fail on...It doesn't even check the electrics FFS.
Although I'd much rather see annual MOTs for caravans and braked trailers (especially horseboxes). I noted one last week dumped at the side of the by-pass during the bank holdiday w/e due to the A-frame being broken off from rust.

What annoys me further is the Vagueness in reference to removable bars: If the removeable section is not fitted; its not tested!
Thing is, the one time I tried fitting the removable tow bar on my BMW (Brink removable hitch), the damn thing wouldn't lock properly. It wasn't rusty - barring a little surface and road dirt, it just wouldn't lock fully..no matter how much wd40, grease and banging with a rubber mallet would make lock it in place properly. In desperation, I hitched up the trailer, loaded it up (mate's Clio loaded with scrap metal ) and put the car in reverse and gave it a good jolt....that made it lock!
Makes me wonder though, it is very easy to push it in and the catch partially "click" like its locked and apeear secure when actually its not...you have to visually look at the catch to note its not quite located home and therefore not secure nor safe to tow. And I wonder how many people with removable bars actually get on their knees to check its porperly locked? Not many I bet....cue caravans crossing carriageways and causing carnage (well, if the numpty ties the break-away cable to the removable part of tow bar ).
Yet that new MOT item doesn't test that bit....useless
