Stupid or thoroughly decent?
Just had a bit of a surreal experience.
Travelling down to Asda to check my tyre pressures and it was quite heavy traffic. On a 40 road and the traffic infront came to a brisk halt. I had plenty of space infront to stop but I still had to apply the anchors quite hard.
Guy behind me in a red Ibiza Turbo obviously wasn't paying quite as much attention as I saw a big red thing approach me in my rear view mirror rather quickly. Needless to say, he hit me. "**** sake" I thought, "car's gonna be a write off".
So signaled him to pull in and wrote his no. plate on my hand with a biro just incase. He did pull in and was very apologetic straight away.
Assessed the damage and was suprised to see that the only marks on the Pug were a scratch on the lower rear bumper trim and a couple small chunks missing from the panel between the rear lights on the bootlid.
His car had a nasty dent in the bonnet, a bent in front bumper and a couple plastic clips obliterated. Now I know my insurance is totaaly 100% upto date with Keith Michaels, but for the damage that was done, I genuinely didn't see the point in calling my insurers. The guy was genuinely sorry and wanted to know if I was ok. A bit of a tweak across my shoulders, but nothing a trip to the docs for a check up won't sort out.
Commented that they don't build e'm like they used too
I personally think that I've been alright with the guy, as he was me. He wasn't arrogant or abusive and was more concerned for me than himself or his car. That's why after looking underneath the Pug for about 15 mins to check everything, I let him on his way and suggested he have his car looked at incase and just pay out his own pocket.
So opinions welcome. What would you have done in the situation. Hit me about 5-10mph so nothing drastic. I'm a little stiff but will see my GP as a precaution.
Andy
P.S. gonna go give the Pug a proper wash now, seeing as I won't be looking to claim £1000s in whiplash claims

i'd get it checked out by a mechanic just to make sure, plastic bumpers have a nasty habbit of flexing back and hiding any damage behind them. if nothing else then no harm done

It seems the way his bonnet was shaped in comparison to my rear end was such that his car was pushed downwards and mine up slightly. This explains the direction of the scratches on his bonnet/bumper.
Right I'm off to wash the car and then crash into someone myself Karma

Ive done this many a times I used to be very unalert when town driving and bumped the motor numerous times, plenty of people have either let me off or screwed me over. I was let off once when I crushed the whole front end of a Renault 5 and there wasnt even a mark on her bumper. A short while later I get a phone call from a body shop, aparently the boot wouldnt open and she wanted about a grand off me to sort it all out. I told her to funk off, eventually got passed to my insurance company who I stressed to she was trying to pull a fast one and they still paid out to her

The damage was so minimal after I cleaned the car today.
If anyone can spot it, let me know
If he had of caused more damage, then yes I would have been on the phone to my insurers, but he was really sorry, and I'm a decent judge of character.
Maybe someone will do me a good turn one day, or I'll get my reward with a job

I would still be in my car now, holding my neck and shouting..I CANT FEEL MY LEGS, whilst waiting for the ambulance I would be sneakily pressing speed dial number1 to ClaimsRus.com.
By the way, why have you got a big sharks fin on the top of your car?

Same thing happened to me a while back. I was on my way to work one morning when traffic slowed down and a guy in a white astra tapped the back of the scoob. I was about to go to Defcon 1 when he said the single thing that would stop me, "Dont worry mate, my fault. I'll pay for any damage"
Took the scoob to my locall trusted bodyshop guy and within a week it was actually better cause it turned out someone had done a bodge job on the bumper before and my guy fixed it properly
I had a slight twinge in my neck but I'm not the sort to take the pi55 over some silly claim.
Accidents happen. He hit me, he paid for it. Car fixed...........sorted

No, the car is my pride and joy. Only worth about £1300 tops admittedly, but I look after her the same as I did my old mint uk classic

Very decent of you Andy, I watched a hire van rip the front off a C4 at the bottom of my drive this evening, just clipped it in passing at low speed, but the whole front end fell off !
They truly don't make 'em like yours any more....
dunx
P.S. Will take a pic if they ever bugger off !

I had a similar incident yesterday, guy in Chysler thing knocked me off my bike. He just drifted too far across to the kerb as he came into the line I was in. Really slow speed and despite being in a pair of shorts, I didn't even have a scratch one me.
He was most apologetic, not even worried about the fact his wing mirror was hanging off and his door was scratched. He ate his humble pie as I lectured him (calmly) on the issue of road awareness and observation, I was in a hi-vis jacket so clearly visible.
Then we discussed the damage to his car and both went on our merry way. Ironically, on my home yesterday my brake cable snapped - could be that it was 8-years old though
It's just pleasing that some people out there can still admit when they are wrong and that common sense can prevail

Well Done CoB.... however, I might be wrong about this, but don't you have to report it to your insurers anyway? Summit legal et al....
Even if you're not going to claim.
