We want to buy a load (roughly 10) beech trees to plant to make a hedge. I know you can get small ones about 12-18 inched high for not much, but the mother in law said about an advert where you could get 10 x 4ft trees for 20 quid.
Anyone know anything about this, or anywhere else we could try to get larger, older trees from than 12-18 inch ones ?
We have looked at Crocus.

Does it have to be beech? I have 3 poplars at the bottom of the garden which you can have, they`re quite large. About 45feet at a guess. I don`t need them so they`re yours if you collect.

Druddle,
try phoning a few of the garden centres/nurseries listed in your yellow pages. If they haven't got any they can probably get some.
Tell them you want "bare root" plants for hedging (much cheaper than pot grown).
By the way, unless you need an instant screen, the smaller plants will eventually catch up and overtake the large ones due to less disurbance when transplanted.
Hope this helps,
Pete.
