Nokia phones
What on earth has happened to Nokia?
I used to be very loyal to them then had two dire phones so switched to SE.
My wife stayed loyal and upgraded her 6300 (she likes basic, slim phones) - this was okay and had decent battery life but then started losing charge very quickly. She went for the similar 6500 classic. TERRIBLE battery life and doesn't do anything useful - doesn't even have a memory card.
Now been sent back and being replaced by an SE C902 (needs to be slim).
We looked at the entire Nokia range - either over complex mobiles like the N96 that constanly crash or utterly dire basic phones.
A real shame - they seem to have done a "Motorola"

After the old 702, I left Nokia as they all looked cheap.
Only returned when the N70/symbian came out, and now have an N95 (original).
The N70 was a nail. Slow and poor battery life.
N95 has been better - got better with a firmware update. Haven't tried any other Nokias, as I'm not overly impressed.
I'm out of contract but REALLY don't know what to get. The new touchscreen N-series, looks good but (a) fragile, and (b) expensive.
Looked at the Blackberry Storm - it's cr@p. Simple. good idea but badly implemented.
Iphone is appealing, but only on O2 and not prepared to leave Voda (they've been really good too)
LG and Samsung are too "girlie" (imho - no offence to male users!)
I'll be interested to see what comes out next. As it stands I'm going back to my old papercup and string!!LOL!!

I think they went lame for a bit, but I would happily recommend the 6220c
Battery issues have been on going but its usually the battery not the phone. Or applications running in the background using all the power, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi wtc
I have not been motivated to go SE yet, but have come close a few times.
The next gen look like they are back on track though.

BB Storm was always a bad idea, it strays from what BB know and are good for.
Other BB's are good options though, 8900, Bold and the up and coming Niagara.
BB's are getting VERY popular now, amazingly popular for a once business only device.
But there are some nice phones due on the market this year from all manufacturers. The market IS changing though, and smart phones seem to be the future.
BB Curve and Nokia 6220c do me just fine

SE phones (I have a C905) just seem so much better made, don't crash and have useable battery life.
Had a W850i before this one and that was excellent too.
The two Nokias before that had me in "mobile rage" fits many times!

I've just gone backwards and gone back to my Nokia 6300 from the LG Secret, which I got sick of and sold on. The Nokia 6300 does everything I need it to, having said that I think in October when my contract expires i'll be leaving Vodafone and getting an Iphone, nothing else on the market appeals to me. I'll keep the Iphone for when i'm not working and use the 6300 for work.
I had a W880 previously which I hated and SE havent produced anything else I like since, and Samsung I havent used since the D500, I had a play with a Samsung recently (can't remember the model) but I hated it

Just replaced my 6300 with an E71. Not much bigger, just a little wider and even slimmer. And I can customise the font size so I can actually see things on it with my old eyes ...... Plus built-in GPS, wi-fi etc etc.

The E71 is indeed a nice phone, and as I have said, the future too. I think so anyway.
I didnt have any probs with my 6300 either, was a good reliable phone for a long time.
6220c is the same, but with all the tricks of the N95 with GPS etc.

Dave - we just presumed it (6500) would be better.
It's bigger, the battery life is about half and we just assumed it would have a memory card - there is literally not one SINGLE step forward from the 6300.
The battery in the 6300 was genuine (and original). O2 made it a real hassle to get checked so we didn't bother. Until then, it was a decentish phone.

I went away from nokias a few years back due to them becoming buggy and unreliable. I went se w850i, lg viewty but I have gone back to nokias now with the N96. Reason being my mrs wanted the n95 when they came out, that phone after I played about with it and used it restored my faith in the nokias again, so I decided to get the n96 when it came out and I have had no problems with it whatsoever. Only issue my wife had with her n95 was a cracked screen but that was a quick £16 fix from ebay

I had an N95, got an upgrade to an LG Renoir which is ok, camera is better, simpler ro operate but the touchscreen is pretty fragile and the actual interface though ok, after an Iphone feels clunky.
The N95 has been the pick of the bunch for a while, N96 didnt really offer anything so I had a change, going to flog my old Iriver and N95 and buy an Ipod Touch as the kids wont let me borrow theirs !

I used to be a big SE user, the K750i being a stormer (at the time)
come the upgrade to the K800i it went **** up,
queue " new firmware and IO" total bollox the phone demands to be the top item in any bluetooth chain, and has a hissyfit if it isnt.
resets everytime its connected via bluetooth for file transfer, and gave up the ghost transferring more than 10 pics at one time...
that said as a phone and basic camera and its AD2P (SP?) for music streaming its good....
Moved to nokia
N958gb
Super phone, crap GPS and total failure by voda to repair it...
(software reflashes dont fix hardware faults)!!!
got an LG omnia as replacement....
nice phone......but... windows os is slooooowww and buggy...
camera good, video *****
and no 3.5 headphone jack.....
looking at an N97 next time

I've got a 5800 XPressMusic and think it's great, got a few minor niggles with it, but for the price and the cheapness of the hardware I think it's a pretty good effort by them. Not as slick as the iPhone by any means but it is half the price.

An N version of the 5800 would be interesting, but I guess they are using the N97 for that.
Given the choice of an iPhone or N97 I would go N97 purely based on a physical keyboard.

Interesting read but with the figures of..
leaving the 1/3 ratio firmly in place, I dont think they have to much to worry about.
They have fallen behind the times though
Nokia's share of the global handset market was 37%, down from 39% in the same quarter a year ago, but stable from the fourth quarter
They have fallen behind the times though

Well the wife's C902 arrived - what a superb phone!
While mine (C905) is slightly higher spec, the C902 looks brilliant - very tough metal finish and I prefer the camera "pop out" to my slide over cover too.
I'm sorry but nothing from Nokia comes close.
That's two SE converts now!

My nokia is fantastic as a phone, which is its intended purpose and works really well, I can make and recieve calls just about anywhere, never lose the signal, and battery life is pretty damn good too
all the other features im really not bothered about, as at the end of the day its purpose (for me) is to be a phone
I also have a blackberry on 02 and again for my uses is fantastic, and never fails

i replaced my wifes duff mobile with one of my v old Nokia 6310 -- the ultimate mobile phone imo
when she looked at me quizzically, I told her in no uncertain terms that it was well known as the best phone in the world, now get back to the dishes
2 days later she was at a trade show, two blokes came upto her and said "wow I remember my phone like that, best phone I ever had"

All depends what you want from a phone I think.
I have a Nokia 6300 and all I want is to be able to reliably call people and send SMS messages easily and quickly. For me the 6300 is perfect - excellent battery life - bombproof build quality (I have dropped it so may times it's untrue) and works in every country I have ever been to. That is why I still have it and can see nothing to replace it on the market today.
Before that I had a 6310 with a short foray into the world of the Orange SPVC600 (a disaster) and if they still made the 6310 I would have one today - the best phone ever.
For simple reliable phones Nokia have always been the best as far as I am concerened, but sounds like they have turned a corner
