Question for the tax experts?
We currently have my brother in law staying with us for 5 months as he lives in Canada with the rest of the inlaws. As he's family and not allowed to work whilst he's here and he's on a a tight budget we're not asking him for rent. Are there any tax breaks or anything we are eligible for? I've never looked into anything like this before hence my lack of knowledge. The wife has also agreed that when the brother in law leaves we will be taking in her cousin who has fallen on hard times who will also not be paying rent!

So why doesn't he try for a cash in hand job like bar work, window cleaning or whatever. 5 hours an evening at £5 per hour is £125 per week which would help. Summer jobs will be starting soon. For example the marquee business always take on fit your lads to help. Can be hard work but well paid with the decent company. Hand car wash? What's he doing here anyway? dl
