Default What's the longest you've kept a car for?

Mine was a silver 1.6 Integra, kept it for 11 years and it never once let me down, apart from occasionally it's lights wouldn't go up properly during long hot dry summers, a squirt of WD40 soon sorted that though

I feckin loved that car, I eventually got rid of it due to corrosion that got totally out of control, everyday it seemed another blister appeared I put well over 150k on her, bought her with just 33k on the clock, she was just 3yo when I got her Even after 11 years of me hammering the **** out of it the engine was still tip top, no burning oil etc, pity the rust on the body let it down I'd love to have that car back now!

So what's the longest you've kept a motor for?

6 years for my current na impreza. Bought it back in 2003 with 156k miles on it, now almost 222K. Apart from the immobiliser problem, its never missed a beat.

I only buy 6 or 8cyl mercs or BMWs that are old/classic.

Buy them cheap with a long ticket, run them and then sell them on with 2-3 months' ticket still left.

Free motoring, and I usually make a profit on them.

I think I kept an e30 M3 I had for 2 years in the late 90s. The **** cost me £2500 once to MOT and keep going in one hit, though.

9 years - a Cavalier SRi - 83 'A' reg - Silver over Anthracite.
Previous owner had it 10 years from new - an elderly relative who bought it when he retired early.
It had a genuine 36k on it when it came to me, and had ben serviced every year, sometimes after only 3k.

Never once let me down, but sadly had to go, aged 19. 145k on the clock, and motor still sweet as a nut, but needed a sh*tload of welding for an MOT

Replaced it with a 2L Mondeo Ghia, and regretted it within a fortnight.

About 2 years for my first car, an XR2, including about 6 months where it was off the road when some ***** wrote it off and I was waitig for the insurance pay out, where I bought it back for pennies and fixed it cheap as.

Since then -

Ford Escort, about 6 months
Mazda MX-5 (Spanish limited edition) about 9 months
Mini Cooper 14 months

Several Saxo hire cars - normally a few weeks until they died

I once had scoobyvirgin's Evo VI for about 4 months at my place but hardly went anywhere as it eats fuel. I think I only did on average 25 miles per month!

Currently I'm 15 weeks into owning my Fiesta Zetec-S and it's now got a massive 1300 miles on the clock. Think I'll keep it for three years unless I win the lottery, in which case, it'll be replaced by an Aston.

VW Corrado - bought in '94, sold in '07 - 13 years.

Should have sold it long before and got into Scoobs, they're much cheaper to run when you consider how unreliable the VW was. Cost an arm and a leg, and even a kidney to finance the constant replacement of parts on the Corrado.

Surely in that case it deserves to have inflated tyres on it

Maybe I should reconsider the Aston and get a new shape Fiesta ST or if they make one, a Fiesta RS. Then mod it!
