Major price rises about to come through?
Was speaking to my boss yesterday who said he has just put in a massive order for outboard engines due to massive price rises commencing from the 1st April.
For example suzuki 2.5hp is going from £399RRP (were selling them for £350 last sumer) to £569RRP
This is apparently something to do with the pound collapsing by 67% against the yen.
Have also had price rises through on starbrite cleaning products (american - dollar) of between 30-50%.
Talking to other retailers who had massive sales to get them through winter, they have been re-orering products at higher prices then they sold off the last of there stock at.

The Japs, don't you just love 'em? Rolleyes:
They charge us £ for $ when the £ is strong, then bang 60% or so on when the £ is week.
Personally I hate the little b*ggers!

Not sure AV amps and cameras are in the 'shopping basket' used for RPI calculation though

In my line of work prices are coming down a little, fuel costs are a bit lower and customers are shopping around a lot more so they want the cheapest price. Our "budget" lines are doing very well so far this year.

Hmmm. Everything I want to buy (like camera stuff, or an AV amp) is going UP pretty rapidly. The pre-Christmas prices of old stock were heavily discounted, but now new stock is costing the retailers a lot more. Denon for example have put RRP up by nearly 40% and the discounts seem to have evaporated, so an amp might be more like 60% up on the December price.

Very true. Luckily I bought a load of kit (inc home cinema projector) just before the price increases last year.
When I told mates to buy anything AV they were planning quickly they laughed as they said prices would come down with the recession

When all the imported goods are due for replacement then the prices will go up, The pound is in deep pooh so everything will be more expensive, e.g. in the motorcycle market all the main manufactors have raised prices by around 10% all imports will follow suit.

Sure give it a couple of years and we will likely have some very serious inflatory pressures in the economy, but definitely not at the moment

What I think is unimportant, the basic fact is that inflation is expected to head rapidly towards ZERO over the coming months. Deflation is the danger right now not inflation.

I think that once the pound recovers, then we start to see the decreases, but not before.

As mentioned before a lot of this is due to the exchange rates.
As a manufacturers - business seems to be picking up after an awful start of the year. Many competitors who import from abroad are losing out due to the euro. So their prices increase.
Its a welcome change for me, as normally I'm getting told how much cheaper it is to buy abroad and import.

It'll be better for the uk economy, more people will be inclined to spend here although as said what is actually made in the uk anymore.
I was quite fortunate and nabbed me some xtr bits for my bike a few months back, a chainset/bb was about £200 now it's shot up to £344.
Either way im going to be tighter than a ducks **** as im sure many others will be.
