Coving -nice or old hat now .
Just in the process of redecorating a bedroom and putting some coving up .
On a Decorating Forum someone said it is a bit "old hat" now and only just better than Artexing .!!! Cheeky Beggar .I have plastered over the Artex .
Whats your opinion .?
I think it finishes the room off personally and makes the joint between wall and ceiling look much neater looking .
I am not talking about the polystyrene stuff ,but the Gyproc plaster type .
Let me know what you think .

i live in a house that was built in 1895. 10-11 ft ceilings with original plaster coving in every room on the house. looks great but needs to be kept clean and pianted every 3- 4 years. major PITA but is in keeping with the period of the house.
new stick on stuff looks ok in some rooms, looks crap in otherd. depends on how you want to maitain it. no wallpaper in my house. every room has had walls replastered and skimmed so they can be painted every couple of years.

I think if you dont have it, the corners between the wall and cieling have to be immaculately accurate and the painting or papering has to be top notch

I think rooms that dont have it look like they have been finished on the cheap. I know there will be loads of people on here with gorgeous houses that dont have it, but for me its a nice touch especially in a bedroom.

Have to agree - as I'm working through re-doing our house, most of the rooms will have coving - I think it looks a lot neater than a dodgy wavy edge between the wall and ceiling ( I cant remember the last house I saw that had a perfectly straight transition between the wall and ceiling ), and also provides a nice feature on what otherwise looks pretty boring.
As long as the coving is inkeeping with the period and style of the house, I dont see anything wrong with it ( artex is another matter though ! )

not sure about price per metre. Its not cheap, cost about £3k for the whole house to be done, that was a special price cus we work with Robby quite a lot on jobs and pass work his way etc. he took only 3hrs to do our kitchen.. seen above... so waying up time/money I didn't think it worth us doing it when we had so much to do on the house, then took another 5weeks to make his way through all the house lol
if you're buying the gyproc coving, get the ready mixed adhesive from Wicks (there wn brand) its very very good, you can also use it to re fill the edges where needed with little sinkage.

I've put it up in my house (circa 1950s). not that age matters. It's very much personal taste. I really don't care whether anybody else likes it, as I'm the one who lives there
Certain rooms need it. Others not so.
All IMHO of course

We've got no coving downstairs, but we redid most of the walls etc. I like a really clean finish and have got rid of it in both bathrooms too as they've been done up.
I think it depends on the house and what look you are after. Our house is fairly modern, so it's a nice look. Do whatever you think is best!

It has no bearing on my decision,as I have already bought the stuff anyway .
Was just curious as to what others thoughts were .
