Angry Chocolate tax - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooo........!!!

A doctor has called for chocolate to be taxed in the same way as tobacco and alcohol in order to tackle obesity and diabetes, story here: BBC NEWS | Scotland | Glasgow, Lanarkshire and West | 'Chocolate tax' to tackle obesity

Now this is blooming daft, I am neither obese nor suffer from diabetes but I do love choccy, however, I also have this remarkable thing called 'self control' albeit not very much of

If I didn't exercise this amazing thing called 'self control' on my desire to eat chocolate then I too would become obese. It doesn't need taxing, people just need 'self control'.

Still, I'm going to stockpile it just in case

lol there are states in the US that levy higher taxes on NON healthy options of foods. Soft drinks etc.
Was only a matter of time before GBsaw the light and thought that would pay for the lounge to be decorated.

Gov't happy to dictate our lives and remove the need for thought, self responsibility, common sense and self control as they have with so many other things - this is not the answer and about time they realised that this is the case!

Chocolate is not the problem, stuffing too much, no self control or not enough exercise is the problem!

About time Obese kids where seen as being neglected or abused and the rubbish parents 'outed' then educated and/or the kids taken away and parents jailed for a start!
Not likely to happen as this govt sems happy to leave kids with Heroin addicted parents so what hope is there...

IMO they should be taxing the likes of Maccas, Burger King et al to oblivion. Bottom line though is if output exceeds input calorie-wise then obesity ain't going to happen.

Anyway, chocolate. Decent quality dark stuff eg Lindt is actually good for you, in moderation. Anti-oxidants aplenty.

Yeah but it doesn't do it for me in the way that Fortnum and Mason's champagne truffles do

They're also good for you aren't they? I was given a box yesterday and they made me feel REALLY good

You already get taxed on Chocolate.

That Chocolate bar you buy, has VAT on it.

The Government get VAT on the Manufacturer buying in raw materials.
The Government get TAX on the staff who work for the manufacturer
The Government get TAX from the company
The Government get TAX from the shop keeper
The Government get CAT on the chocolate bar itself.

I think they make enough money out of the Chocolate bar as it stands.

Adding 2p or whatever ain't going to stop anyone buying a Chocolate bar.

As per usual for the 'nanny state' it seems that legislation is aimed at preventing the lowest common denominator from harming themselves. This is only a doctor's recommendation though, and as we all know the government routinely ignore advice from experts.

This 'doctor' was interviewed on Radio 2 yesterday.

Apparently he has a degree in nutrition and apparently chocolate isn't good for you. It is the worst thing you can eat......................

Bet he wouldn't dare come round my house and tell me that to my face....
(He'd be wearing his b*lls as earings!!)

Someone suggested taxing all the crap junk food thats out there - that would be a much better idea - considering all the packaging they decorate the nearby area with!

Surely a good bar of chocolate is better than popping a couple of valium - I know which 'feel good factor' I'd go for every time.

Can someone tell me when we became a Dictatorship, must have missed it.....

1.4kg of chocolate - is that what they call an overdose?

The Hotel Chocolat factory is in Royston where we live - often wondered if they need any staff.......

Would offer to pick one up for you, but you'd be disappointed with an empty box!!

Is this for real

Every flaming thing that is a pleasure in life, they want to tax.

I hope they haven't watched Carry on Henry, that may give them ideas on what next to tax
