Best LCD/Plasma tv for £600?
Time has come to upgrade, mainly to exploit the full potential of my xbox!
Anyone got any views on what is available at the moment?
Quite like this:
Buy Samsung PS42A457 Plasma HD Ready Digital Television, 42 Inch online at JohnLewis.com

Did you want a Plasma or LCD
Do you want 1080 or 720?
I am looking for a 1080 42“ Plasma at the moment for around 600 but only appers to be LCD's at that price.
The 50“ Plasmas are £700 though.

Plasma really. Although the Philips LCD that I have at the moment is not bad but it is doesn't have hdmi only dvi, which I just cannot get to work with my xbox. And am I right in thinking that for 42 inches and above, plasma is the way to go?
I don't have sky hd yet and to be honest, it isn't really my thing. Will be getting a blue ray player this year, so looking to exploit that also.

I would not but a TV under 42" anyway, you can go bigger than you think. Plasma all the way...for now, until the OLED become mainstream.

Can I second that based on some tests today at work - including straight monitoring of broadcast camera tapes (streaming video at over 100MBPS). Shocked how many bits the Dell panel dropped (via HDMI). D

Thanks for the advice peeps.
Think I am just going to have to go and have a look at some on display. If I am going to get one, it is going to be 42 inch so at least I know I am after plasma rather than LCD. Just really peeved that I cannot connect my xbox through the dvi port I have on the back of my philips!

Don't forget places like currys etc run multi feeds and the tv will be set to shop mode. Try and find a good hifi shop that can do a direct feed to each tv you want to look at. Make sure you check the standard def feed as that is what most people watch even when they have sky HD.
In your price range the panny is the one to go for. The pic is amazing even in SD. Take my word for it you will not be disappointed with this panel.

Panasonic, every day of the week. After 12 months I still can't get over how superb our Panny Plasma is!!
Especially compared to my brother in laws 40" Samsung LCD which is awful (I told him to buy Plasma, but he ignored me!! )

Amazing, I have sky HD but 90% of the time I watch the SD and the pic is perfect. I was worried about the SD feed after reading how poor some tv's can be. I'm still amazed how good the SD feed is.
Like I said it took me 8 months to choose the right tv, 3 of my mates have bought the same one after seeing mine.

I do like the look and reviews of the panny. Also not a bad price for it with a 5 year warrenty. Does anyone know if these are backed by the manufacturer or the retailer?

I'm also a Viera fan, have 2 now. Thoroughly recommended. The new one i got the other month, 42PX80 is great. I'm yet to see a better picture, especially in the price range.
You should be able to push hard on the prices as the new range of Panasonic Vieras are out at the end of the month. So they will be trying to shift this older stock.
Some people have got the 42PX80 for £499 and the 42PZ80 for £649.

Gaz, were people getting those prices by plain old haggling? Any idea where from?
I can't decide between the PZ80 or the PX80.
