Want to do your bit for the environment...?
Now that we're all worrying about our carbon emissions, the next big worry is how much water the products we consume use. However, panic not, there is a simple solution to this upcoming crisis.
Embedded water is a measure of the water it takes to produce a product - for example, water used to feed crops and water used in the production process.
To make a loaf of bread takes 440 litres of water.
To produce on chicken fillet takes 683 litres of water.
To produce one bag of sugar takes 1,500 litres of water.
To produce 500g of cheese takes 2,500 litres of water.
To produce one beef steak takes 3,875 litres of water.
However, to produce one bottle of beer only takes 150 litres. So, quit eating, drink more beer and you can relax safe in the knowledge that you're doing your bit for the environment

Water isnt lost though, is it? Not even the 50-odd% that the greedy water companies lose becasue they look after their shareholders over their infastructure.....

I reckon our green /environment obsession is part of the reason we have a global recession.
At least Vauxhall have solved it by putting a green sticker on the boot of their cars and calling them 'eco xxxxx'
I'm in on the beer thing though

A good idea in principle, but that article is complete bollox
The BBC should be ashamed of themselves, their jounalistic standards used to be the envyof the world
Yes Unilever (and the others) have all launched these new concentrated products on the basis of how 'eco-friendly' they are, but as always there is a much more cynical ploy behind the PR image.
Yes it will save them a fortune in shipping costs per unit, some of which they do pass on to the customer, but what they know (and are indeed banking on) is that your average houswife (or husband) will be putting well over the amount that's need into each wash, simply because the correct amount doesn't 'look' to be enough
Result; Reduced Costs + Increased Volume Sales = Bigger Profits
I generally do the laundry in our house (being a New Man and all that) and all I do is split each new bottle of concentrate between three empty bottles and top up with water. Then continue to put the same amount in the machine as before
