I seem to remember seeing sixteen of them in formation at Farnborough Air Show once. I believe they did a loop like that-very impressive.
I had a ride in the twin seater once-unforgettable, especially doing a bit of a dogfight with one of his mates. It did a vertical climb off the runway in Singapore.

Lovely looking planes.I used to live a couple of miles from Biggin Hill.Every year me & a few mates used to hop over the fence when the air display was on.
The Lightnings party piece was to go to a very high altitude over the display area & then dive down vertically breaking the sound barrier as they pulled out of the dive just above the heads of the crowd.Caused absolute mayhem, women & some men screaming, kids crying....................I absolutely loved it!!
Far & away the loudest noise I have ever heard.

They were perfectly capable of supersonic flight without having to dive to achieve it like the Hunter and the Hawk.
The CAA would not allow one to be operated in this country because of its complexity and the reliability question especially with the expense of maintaining it.
