Woke up by helicopter!!!
Woke up and almost shat the bed!!!
Can you guestimate how low these things are by the noise because it sounded like it almost took the chimney off
Every window in the house shook and you could hear the whine of the rotors spinning as it passed over. I genuinely thought it was about to crash!!!

They fly past every day under the house along the river valley mostly in Seakings from RNAS Culdrose - but occasionally a Chinook will fly past - my god do they make a racket!

I used to live next to a Search and Rescue unit and my house was in the flight-path. One summer's day the kids waved at the winchman as they flew over the house, so he got the pilot to turn around and virtually hovered over the garden waving back at the kids. They though it was great, but the wife and I had to hang on to the gazebo to stop it blowing away.
Have to admit, I wouldn't mind if the gazebo had blown away as the same crew used to deliver Santa to the kids school and they do a phenomenal job - they know how to keep the public on side as well.

Welcome to my world, damn pork chopper is hovering round the woods next to us almost twice a week these day
Probably after scallies on scramblers.
Personally I'm not a fan of the things; Whilst we fund what is merely a tactical police toy in precedence over an air ambulance or at the very least make the things dual purpose Police/ambulance choppers; then they would have my support. Until then, I'll take potshots with my paintball gun everytime it decides to hover above my house at 3:00am and wake me up. If I hit it, its too low

Nah, the one that goes over us you can hear the blades beating the air, a proper whump...whump...whump then as it goes overhead you get the full whine from the rotors and the turbine. Sounds like it's landing in the garden but it's still pretty high up.

We get a lot on Navy choppers here and the noise is certainly alarming until you get used to it.
I never felt safe in one because I used to keep thinking of all the forces going into the blades and the rotor head!

They are surprisingly safe TBH, ive been in choppers in 70-80 MPH winds , it gets a little bouncy at times, Takes quite alot to ground these things we use to get back and fore from offshore, one thing they dont like is fog though

There is a private one that flies over twice daily, if the cloud is low he flies lower, bloody noisy thing.
Talking of noisy choppers: There is a old Bell 206 (or similar looking two blade) that flies over us in Spain...can hear the thing flying through the valleys from 10 miles away, sounds like I'm in the Viat-Kong Jungle
