Is this a good idea - NHS Vs Smoking
If the government said that from now on, once you turn 18, if you smoke you lose all right to free NHS treatment.
Smoke if you want but you're on your own when your body fails.
Wouldn't apply to anyone who is older than 18 already, just those who turn 18 from a given date.
I think it's a great idea.

Personally I'd just ban smoking, it's the saddest habit imaginable.
But strangely enough, smokers actually are less of a financial burden on the NHS than non smokers, as they die early and quickly, as opposed to non smokers who live far longer but require more care from the NHS in their old age.

Do the same with illnesses related to, Drug/Alcohol Abuse, people who abuse them selves by over eating or under eating, Emo's who self harm or failed suicide attempts people not practicing safe sex and getting STI's and our NHS will be tiny!
Seriously though I feel if they were to deny medical attention to smokers they should do the same with anybody with an addiction who gets ill due to it

How about someone that has smoked 1 cigarette on their 18th Birthday, and decided they didn't like it.
All for it thinking about it, then the government can reduce the cost by knocking off all the tax they rake in as they wont need to be spending any of it treating the smokers.

Yes, but you can't stop there, you have to refuse treatment for anybody who has an injury as a result of their own actions. So anbody who is overweight and has heart disease, drinks and has liver or heart issues, drives a car and gets in to a car accident, anbody who rides a bike and breaks a leg or anybody that gets AIDS and has ever had sex, etc etc.

No, no decisions as to if it was due to smoking or not. Complete forfeit of any free NHS treatment if you smoke.

No just smoking. It's the most simple one to enforce. It's an open and shut case.

But, I also think this should be extended to extreme sports players, Hell any sports people, you knew the risk you took it, your on your own.
Then extend it to drivers who have accidents, you knew the risk, you took it, your on your own.
Then to kids crossing the road....
and so on and so on.

It would just be thin end of the wedge in my view. Either provide free point of use health for all, or don't. If you can't then scrap it and move to a private system and scrap NI so people can fund their own health care.

I'd rather they denied the right to NHS treatment for the work shy Dole spongers, after all they don't and probably never will contribute a penny towards it. Come to think of it Dole spongers should be denied the right to everything including free housing, benefits etc, bring back work houses, that'll sort 'em
