Will i be able to get BBC and ITV hd on a sky hd box without subscription ?
My mate is selling a sky hd box as he has switched to virgin, will i be able to get any free hd channels on a sky hd box without paying the £10 per month as i don`t fancy paying that much per month with so little hd content about ?

ITV-HD isn't avaliable to sky yet but you will get BBC HD matey
HD may not be free with Murdoch-ee, but Virgin don't have any HD other than BBC-HD, Freesat have **** all good on it either because they can't charge to for it thus can't make it viable.
So basically pay a tenner to Sky each month and have upto 30channels for HD and rising to enjoy and by doing so you will be paying for more HD goodness to come avaliable.
I bought a remote control submarine from ebay for a fiver, it was ****, nuff said.

You pay for what you get really i.e. Sky at least has decent content. I think in the next year sky will drop the HD sub charge just like they did for Sky +.

if you've already got sky then your dish is aligned to the same satellite as freesat is transmitted on (astra). I built a system recently with a satellite receiver card in it for a work project which i tested on my mates sky rig by simply unplugging the feed from the back of the sky decoder box and plugging it into my system. Was able to tune in to all the standard channels available for free including bbc hd.
Don't know for sure if the sky decoder box will work without the card in it (whether it's been firmware locked) but i'd expect it too. Certainly all the channels are there at any rate
more info can be found here : Astra 2D Website for Sky Digital - Sky+ - Freesat - Freeview - UK TV
