I'm the same but every time I face up to the possible reality of doing real work for someone else I get a little bit of motivation

What I've decided to do is diversify a little bit so have some other projects in the pipeline

God forbid having to do real work for an employer

I would HATE to have to work for someone now. How would I post all day on here after all?!

I have found that nearly every time I've done well in a job, someone has got jealous and made life difficult for me.

Now all the money we make is our own (apart from tax and VAT!) and there's a nice element of flexi time.

I know a few who lived off interest who are seriously "struggling!"

Don’t knock that "guaranteed" pay check at the end of the month

I’ve done both -- but been employed for the last 10 years and I would never go back

I have more time off (actual time off where I don’t have to think about work at all) than i ever did when I ran my own company -- plus I still get paid

I have the flexibility of working from home if I want to aswell

so it not all bad in the world of employment

It's hard to say at the moment as winter is always pretty dead anyway. I have just sold one boat which is the first time I've ever sold one in January so that bodes well

The top of the market seems to be moving as does the bottom end, it's just the middle of the market which is my bread and butter money that is sticking. However as boat prices fall I'm looking to pick up some bargains...

Just make sure your back and screen is facing the wall.

How do you think I post on here all day?

Scooby - you sell boats? Cool!

Stilover - I got rumbled once for internet use. It wasn't good. Nothing dodgy, just posted up a comment on a site about a pain in the **** boss, it was being monitored, end of job (which I'm glad ended but it was a bit of a shock!) even though I (David Brent mode) doubled their sales in a year. I think the boss (son of the company owners and literally a schizo) didn't like me. Now earn much more for a lot less work and their company is literally on it's knees...

I suspect my last weeks plan of hand delivery flyers into peoples post boxes has had an effect on trade up this end as i am now booked up till saturday.

the plan is to do it in stages, in different estates, to see what effect it has and to limit the flow of work coming in, rather then deliver 1000 of them over a few days and then end up turning people away because we can not fit them in.

i could not see myself working for somebody else either, although i would do it as a last resort.

Our whole office is getting changed around in the next month or so. All personel have to sit facing the wall . There goes my post count rising

I think it's because they suspect certain people are on the Internet all day. The work shy *******

I work for myself for approxiamately three days a week and earn more than I have ever did as a proper employee! Any my three days a week are sold out until the middle of next year.

I will have to start thinking of a sales pitch for when this contract runs out.

Don't think I would want a proper job, not enough time to travel, play PS3, look after the kids

I got into an argument with this thug in the pub. Anyway, I backed away, but as I was leaving he shouted, "I know where you live." I was really worried for a while, but it turned out he works for Royal Mail Parcelforce, so his threat almost certainly isn't true.

Why not be a contractor then B2Z?

Quick overview of my situation...

I read this thread because I suppose I am in the opposite situation of wondering whether to jack in being an employee. I was an accountant before, but didn't really enjoy it. I got into trading the US futures market in the evening after work and really liked it. I jacked the accountancy job in 2002 and became a postman so I could trade full time (US session opens at 2:30pm our time).

I've been getting on well, and now earn more from trading than I do from being a postie (and an accountant). It would seem logical to jack the postman job, but something is holding me back. I think it is the fact that I wouldn't have anything to get up for in the morning, and I would also feel worried about not having that guaranteed money. I would almost feel unemployed!

Anyone been in a similar situation?

I feel very lucky in that I have too much work and as of next week I'm having to employ someone to help me out.
My 4 day weeks are booked out until September -ish.

Not ***** waving - I genuinely feel fortunate!.

So's mine.
He/she will sign for a letter or parcel for me if I'm not in and leave it in my safe place.
Saves having to go up to the PO.

In fact, last week I had a parcel sent to me and the postie saw I was working at another house in the village and brought my parcel round

I work for an Indian gentleman who looks a bit like Larry Grayson.

Google Image Result for http://www.business-standard.com/images/general/tata_08.jpg

He bought the company I work for in good faith...but I think he now has buyers blues.

He promised when he bought us that he would be like a guiding parent to the company, I think now he would like to put his newfound children up for adoption.

I have lost my shift allowance of £60 per week, even though my shift was permanent earlies.

I work 0700till1515 which is day shift, yet earlies was 0630till1445, so for the sake of moving the big hand forward half an hour Ive lost my shift rate.

Ive also gone to a 4 day producton working week, and obviously there is no overtime, which I did when I wanted treats.

The company wants us to save a further £70million through a list of agreements/savings/cutbacks, so I should imagine I will lose more money.

This is seriously affecting my watch spending capabillity....so all donations will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks.

My Dad always said to me, never work for anybody but yourself, then you will be in charge of your own destiny rather than at the beck and call of an employer.

How right was he.

He also said never get married, dont have kids, live on a boat or in a caravan, and look after your teeth..

Later skint Yoza...giz a job
