I do get the feeling sometimes that the people running the Post Office are under instruction to do everything they can to deliberately run it into the ground
Maybe so that Flash & Mandy's buddies at Paypal can buy it on the cheap

I spent most of last week around the local estates posting work flyers into letterboxes and to be honest, it was some of the easiest, brain dead work i have ever done, i even did it "properly" and did not cut across peoples gardens.
the people that do this job have it tooooo easy, maybe fighting a few dogs should be part of every round to get them to hurry the hell up
like i said in another thread a few years back (an was slated for it) its a glorified paper round, nothing more, nothing less......

They get paid for walking door to door and putting post in the letter box. Then they complain about the pay!

Bull mastiffs, if brought up correctly, are one of the most loyal, gentle and caring breeds out there!

There was an incident similar to this a couple of years back in a town not a million miles away from us, where a Postman did apparently get quite badly bitten by a dog. Anyway, 3 days after the incident was reported on the local news and plastered over the papers, our temporary postman at the time thought it was wise to tease our 2 dogs, similarly behind big gates.
I was in bed but heard the commotion so flicked on the TV only to see the postman actually running at the gates back and forth. I saw him act like a complete **** tormenting the dogs then drive off.
It all just made a complete mockery of the seriousness of a work colleagues alleged plight just days earlier.

everyones a critic
working for the royal mail is TBH a cushy number "most of the time"
With regards to the "just walking delivering letters" comments, try doing the full day stint,we actually spend about 3 hours delivering and the other 5-6 hours of each rota day in the office trying to "platt straw" as the watchdog (postcom) decided to remove the monopoly from the royal mail, thus opening up the market to every tom, dick etc and now we spend hours per day sorting addressed junk mail from the likes of TNT/DHL/the germans etc who charge a pennie per item less to get the buisness, why i dont know as those companies have no delivery system in place to deal with the volumes of mail,so they just dump it back at the royal mail's door for delivering
must agree, the powers that be do have some ulteria(sp?) motiv regarding thier attempts to destroy a once great company and service, and the reason's being we do not know
But,is there another company who will deliver you a letter to the other end of the country for 30 odd pence, generally the next morning
with regards to the dog attack situ, ive had my fair share of rucks with our four legged friends, but it mostly ends in a size 9 work boot around its chopper's

I used to do a paper round, there was **** of a dog, usually behind gates, sometimes it got out and several times I was stood there using my bike as a shield until its daft owner came in and got the horrible creature.
Anyway, I was off for a bit and another lad did my round and got attacked by it (forgot to warn him) but luckily in his suprise and due to the ice on the ground following a snowfall/freeze as it went for him, he fell on it and broke its leg, it still kept going at him and he got a couple of bite marks for his troubles, the dog got up and limped off and when I got back to do my round it was sporting a sizeable cast it was noticably less aggressive and for ages it couldnt move fast enough to be any trouble.

Sorry, but a) the picture isn't of a bull mastiff and b) the post office should simply stop delivering to that house.
Talk about a complete overreaction.
Most dogs aren't mad about posties. Ours are only ever outside in the back garden which has a 6 foot fence and locked gates, but their reaction if we meet the postman in our street when, say coming back from a walk requires that they are always on their leads.
If we meet the postman at any other time, when he is off duty, no issues at all.
Occupational hazard, but not one to be lightly dismissed. Refusing to deliver to a whole street because of problems at one house is a fecking joke, however.
Incidentally, all the postmen I know will tell you its collies that are their biggest worry.
And as for the so called "sensible" option, given that its been reported in the daily mail, and given that the biggest story is the termination of deliveries, not the "savaging" of the postman, I think its pretty safe to assume that the postman was not actually injured in the "attack". So lets get a bit of perspective here.

I would just like to point out I am no great lover of dogs.
I guess as a cyclist, I have always been asking for it

If you look again, you will see that the car is an Impreza Gravel Express: it came from the factory in blue over silver. It has had the bull bar removed and probably the external soare wheel too. The silver scoop is in poor taste though...

What I fail to understand is why haven' t the other residents gone round and given the mastiff owner a good f@cking kicking over it.
This sort of response (from the post office) is exactly what's needed in this country.
In school, if somebody cheeked the teacher we all got punished until
a) the joker owned up
b) the joker got grassed up
Seeing as nobody wants to be a grass then we'd all wait and give said joker a right hiding.
Punish the masses to get the point across to the few, Im all for it

Tasars are illegal for civillians, and I'm not sure what effect pepper spray would have, to be honest.
Others on here will be able to give you better advice as to what to do
