Gets on my nerves too. Not totally sure the law will ever get used except in extreme cases, but I am not a great lover of fashionable dog clothing.

I agree that it is quite wrong to undermine an animals dignity by dressing it up in such a manner.

I'm not sure how much dignity such a beast has, but it does seem cruel if they get too hot.

I agree with how people dress their dogs up in skirts, and some even paint their nails

but i make no apologies for Ella - other than her fashion sense isn't the greatest!! She absolutely hates the cold weather, and when it was really cold she would not go outdoors... but she was quite happy wearing this

LOL "dressing up dogs" business is ridiculous to my eyes, but it may have its own "pretentious" place, as long as the dog is not put at any discomfort for this (I hope). Some SN people told me that they dress up their dog, because the dog feels very cold. Apparently, some dogs are sincerely obliged to their owners for cladding them.

BTW, Did anyone hear about talk from Animal Rights people yesterday on the radio? They are wanting all the fish to be called sea kittens , because they don't want fish to be eaten by the population (living on the ground surface) any more. According to them, people don't even contemplate cooking and eating a kitten, because kittens are cute. By changing the name, they will change the mentality and fish's image LOL

In a nutshell, this world had gone far too progressive for its own good

Dressing up a dog is dressing up a dog regardless of the circumstance, you may try to claim extremism or not but you still dress the poor bloody dog up.
SaraSquires is another that does the same iirc?

It is tantamount to cruelty in my eyes and always has been, if you wanted a fashion accessory then please, for nature's sake, buy another bloody pair of shoes

Ta, she is rather cute isn't she?
It's a bright yellow scarf Ella has a tendancy to enjoy the little tassles on the end so I tucked them in.. my old Boxer, Ben used to wear it when it was really cold. Boxers really really hate the cold...when she is fully grown I'll probably get her one of those straight forward no nosense wax jackets like grey hounds wear but the scarf is as far as i'd go silly dress wise

This country is mad sea kittens
Our dog has a hoodie and a normal coat to go out in, he is short haired and shivers alot, he is white, I got told by the vet that it's proven that white dogs shiver more than other dogs, something to do with pigments blah blah. I wouldn't go to the extreme that some do and have a full outfit on him and his own wardrobe but I do like to buy certain items that are mainly to keep rain etc off him when out walking. Greyhounds have worn coats for years, fair enough they are just normal weather jackets and not a fashion item but has anyone ever said it's cruel to put a jacket on them? Because by the sounds of it it sounds like anything that a dog is wearing whether it be a normal jacket or right up to the extreme is bad. I for one will not dress my dog up to the nines but I see no harm in a jacket etc that is going to keep the bad weather directly off him.

Dogs shiver when they are nervous, NOT when they are cold

if you choose to own a more exotic dog like those mexican "rats on stilts" then you should move to mexico or its native climate to allow the poor mutt to live a normal life.
Making the dog adapt to your environment is also cruel.

But hey, if it looks pretty then you can always justify the cuteness and poor fido MUST be cold.

Maybe the dogs in question are substitute children? thats a common thing in the lesbian fraternity

I'm going to soften my stance a little for the sake of harmony and community.

In the depths of winter such as this, with minus temperatures and howling wind and rain then yes, I would think a plain simple overcoat that doesn't restrict the dog's movement in anyway may be justifiable.

But I bet the likes of SS and LG continue to dress up poochie in the spring, summer and autumn months?

Note:
The lesbian comment above was an observation, not an allegation.

If it was not clear, I meant those who drees their animals up in ridiculous clothing just for effect. Such as some of the pictures on this thread.

No reason at all why an animal should not have some kind of suitable clothing against the elements when necessary.

Of course animals have a sense of dignity, to a greater or lesser extent. Why however use an animal as a "clotheshorse" just to satisfy the odd whims of an owner?
