Warranty start date?
When does warranty on products officially start?
I always though it was the date a product is purchased, basically when you have documentary evidence of purchase, IE: a receipt.
I ask as I bought a laptop in December of 2007, therefore my warranty ran from 2007 to dec 2008. However HP say that the warranty started and ended 6 months before the date above!?
Any one know consumer law enough to know when warranty starts?

Warranties are now legally enforcable (before they were little more than a promise). 'Twelve months' from new means twelve months and not twelve months from when it left the distributors. That said your statutory rights cover you for up to six years in England and Wales, so you can choose to fight to vendor, or HP.

this is the result of the search

Doesnt look like there having any of it though.
Basically there is something wrong with the graphics card and as soon as the drivers load, blue screen. YouTube - Hp Pavillion crashing
this is the same in Vista or XP. HP have also had loads of problems with the video cards in these Pavillion 9000 machines but they refuse to admit there is a problem with intel based machines, just AMD machines.
First contacted them about this the end of November so contacted inside warranty period and been going on since then.

The warranty starts from the date you took delivery of the goods. If that is the same as the date of purchase then easy, however, if you have goods delivered from a vendor that is when the warranty starts.
As already mentioned, you can reasonably expect a laptop to last more than 12 months and you can challenge, but it is worth taking advice from trading standard or the citizen advice bureau. My sister is qualified in contract law and has won on this argument for a couple of things my parents owned that have prematurely expired.
