Ok so iv got an A level in Biology ( just )
But i still get confused . If this chap ( whose Ma should be prosecuted for child abuse) wasnt proffered garbage to eat , in fact intake was just curtailed fullstop - how long would it take him to starve to death

Oh, about 100 years. That was gross.
How could anyone let a child of theirs get like that, or why did he not just say NO
I have no idea who is to blame for his situation as I lost interest half way through the programme. It was too vile to watch

Given he was bed ridden and 19 this amounts to child abuse as he must have been very big for a long time, with only his parents to feed him.
Her McDonalds order was frightening and that was a snack!

Agree with the comments about his mum. sadly, the consumer age is really getting the Yanks, very soon it will be our turn. Adverts for thick parents on how to feed their kids are now being broadcast. Recently a women complained about the NHS not giving her a stomach staple op, she said druggies get help. Let's be honest how many muggings occur by fatties stealing cash for their McD Fix, I would like to see them running away with an old grans handbag.
Watching a programme the other night about what we can get away with in the new PC world and being over weight was fair game! It's a life choice and a minute amount of people have a medical condition that makes them that way.

Thing is people can get staples on the NHS (Hell I know someone who got a great pair of breasts of the NHS so why not the odd staple while they are at it!) She probably wasn't fat enough or didn't come up with a good sob story.
Didn't see it but will try to catch it again. The thing is, its quite hard to be able to judge the quality of some foods. We try to keep our diet as rounded as possible which does include the odd Maccie D or the odd take away - I know someone who would not allow either of thier children over the threshold of any fast food joint.
The one thing I flatly refuse to own is a deep fat fryer.

I watched it last night. No very nice viewing. Had a difference of opinion with the GF at the very start of the program. She insisted that some people are just like that. It's in their genes. I said he was a fat Bar-stewart because he ate far too much.
Agree with comments regarding the mother. She should be prosecuted. He should have been taken into care years ago.
Worst part was him sh*tting himself all the time.
At the end of the program my GF agreed he was a fat bar-stewart cos he ate far too much.
I keep telling her. I'm always right, you're always wrong. Think the message is getting through now.

If this is the same show I saw a few weeks back then the mother is over compensating as her other son died, so she's being extra loving to the remaining one. Sad to have lost a child, however, feeding them silly amounts and the wrong type of food isn't really a good idea. She did admit she knew it was partly her fault, didn't seem to stop her from proffering food to the chunky one.
Whilst there is a percentage of people who are overweight due to true medical conditions, be it hyper-thyroidism or other such factors, I think the vast majority are simply stuffing themselves with crappy food and not getting any exercise at all.
I eat a fair bit of processed/junk food, and don't do too much exercise (though clearing the snow from the drive, deck and paths is helping ) however, I *do not* eat junk food at every meal, and if I do, I'm not having double helpings of things, and I think that is part of the problem, they are eating this tosh at every meal. I'm a little overweight, but I'm not some super-heavy chunky monkey, and I don't go around blaming others for the extra poundage I do have.
What annoys me quite a lot is when the medical types start with what I perceive to be thinly veiled comments pointing the finger at the fast food restaurants as the real cause of the problem. Yes, they do provide the food, and very enticing advertisements for their products, however, they are not forcing you, literally, to eat their food. You have made a choice to eat it at every meal and not exercise.
I'm not overly sympathetic to these super morbidly obese people, be they child or adult. For the most part they ate themselves into this position, they have no-one to blame but themselves. One reason why they don't get treatment earlier could be due to the US healthcare system, as you have to pay for things. Can you imagine how much it'd cost to get a chunky one out of their house when the fire service is called to pull down a wall and get you out, let alone the cost of any procedures needed to remove the blubber.
