Has the cold hand of the recession
hit you personally yet?
I've been pretty lucky up to now, my Pension has suffered badly and I may have to work another 5 years and get less at the end of it, despite having to pay 7.5% more! - so, not happy - but I still have my job and my home and no debts.
What's your story?

hit me? = yup
lost 10k in my own wages at the back end of last year due to low trade
picked up now due to our "busy season"
but we went from being on track to beat the previous years figures in the first 6 months, to a horrible crash and burn in the second half of the year.
we also have poor weather to contend with, so its not all "credit-waffle-fault"

I haggled in Game on Saturday (there was a sing out front saying make us an offer) for an Xbox 60gb and got it for £147 with GOW2, any one got a better price than that? I could have had another two games for an extra £30 but didn't bother.
Petrol is cheap, mortgage has gone down £139 a month, clothes are cheap so is house hold furniture, Asda & Tesco are in a price war so essential items like bread butter milk eggs can be had for penny's etc etc

Not at all, quite the opposite, completed on my house a month ago, probably saved £50-60k on what I would have had to pay for it before the downturn.
Promoted twice last year. My jobs about as safe as it gets.
Debts reduced
Started saving for the first time in my life.

Yes, wife's employer went bust last summer, didn't pay the last month's salary, she got another job which is a promotion, but it is temporary and she had three months of unemployment. I didn't pay myself for October so we could pay the staff. Loss in value of equities... limited to about £10k as we sold a lot in time. On the upside, we sold our house not far off the peak and presently rent. This choice alone is having far more effect than the downsides I already mentioned.

Yes. I've been sitting in the house for a week or so instead of building sheds. My next big job is in February. I honestly can't believe how quickly things have changed - months ago we were backed up with work, and now it's non-existant.
The recession is hitting construction, hard!

Unit price of the fund was just over £1.10 at the time, currently hovering around £1.50
The growth has been good but wasn't the intention, aim was not to lose any more than had already been done.
Other funds starting to peg back but glad I moved when I did, some people I know were haemorrhaging value. When the equity funds get back to the prices they were spring/summer 07, will think about moving back.
