Default Car jacked at knife point in South London

I just got car jacked with a golf hire car at knife point, I couldn't give a brass monkeys about the car, but I had just loaded my brand new £1500 mountain bike in the back and its un-insured. I only realised what they were upto as they got right up close, if I had seen them coming I would have been able to get in the car and lock it, then have some fun trying to run them over!!

Makes you want to bring back Corporal punishment

West Dulwich, just off Rosendale Ave. Quiet little street, last thing you'd expect they caught me well off guard, I thought they were coming over to ask for a light or something, only occured ot me when they got to close to do anything what they were upto. A couple of lands with hoods on, scarves around their faces and weapons. Total oportunists, think they'd been watching me the hole time they ran out from no where...

All reported, Police can't do jack.

Its a street car Grey Golf TDI, its got loads of radio gear in it, they can remotely lock it and emobalize it etc. Shame their office had literally just closed as it happened, otherwise I could have got hem to lock the car straight away.

Streetcar

£750 exccess, plus £1500 bike, keys, gonna have to place the locks in the house, plus sat nav and a £150 jacket, £30 hiring the car and £30 taxi home, all in all a very costly evening. But at least I'm not a stabbing statistic I guess. Wish I had a few martial arts skills, I'd dearly loved to have been whoop some ***. Its still going over and over in my head how differently I could have done it, as pointless as that is..

At least you're okay and live to fight another day. If it's a new bike, I'd keep an eye on ebay etc.

Unlucky mate. Great start to the new year.
Hope you get over it OK.
That sort of thing would freak me out for ages. Dark thoughts etc.
You'll be hard pressed to pick any positives out of it, that's for sure!
Good luck.

glad you are ok,
wtf??? £750 excess??? i'd have a stewards enquiry about this one... being held up at knifepoint, surely thats not the same as carelessly damaging the car???

a weird car to steal, nonetheless!!

It's the bike they want - not the car.

Bad experience - don't beat yourself up over it.

Agree, they've immobilized the car now and tracking it, they reckon they'll have it back by lunch, assuming they havne't torched it.

I've come to terms with it now, annoying though, feels very annoying to let people get away with sh*t like that wihtout a fight, but also not worth getting stabbed for a couple of grand, I can make that back in a few months, but you can't get back your internal organs after they've been sliced up.

I totally take it for granted 'it won't happen to me' as probably most people do, so I thought i'd post it on here, reminds us all to be vigilant and trust no one. Especailly hood rat teenagers in South London!

Agree with SSU, easy to feel like your pride has been dented in situations like this cause you didn't have a go, but is it really worth it for the sake of a car. No shame in what you did whatsoever: possessions can be replaced!

The shame lies with them. Bottom feeders! And that's a flattering description!

Chin up mate!

That's awful.

But rest assured that the criminals that did it will die of a crack OD very soon.

shame to hear it, just check you can't claim for the bike on their insurance, it may go down as posessions while in the car, after all odds are you're paying the excess so might as well try and get something back

Mine wasn't. The stereo was covered up to £1000, but personal posessions only up to £100 !!

If you bought the bike on a Credit Card you may be covered.

I'm sure you house insurance will cover you for the bike I think you done the best thing by not fighting back for the sake of a bike as just imagine if you had been stabbed !!

sorry to hear that, awful, you are gonna beat yourself up for a good while over this, (what if i did this, what if i did that etc,) but that is just natural.....

BUT you would be feeling the same had you fought back, except you could now have a lifelong colostomy bag due to a knife in the bowel, or life with one kidney, damaged liver, or worse.......you did the right thing, remember that....
