Default Better way for PS3 optical/audio to headphones?

I have my PS3 plugged into my monitor via HDMI and am using my headphones plugged into the monitor - which is rubbish.

I found a JVC SU-DH1 thing, but it's not easy to get hold of and I question how good it is.

Is there a better way? ... seeing as my headphones are the bose QC3s, so a little better quality than monitor circuits would be welcome.

There's a proprietary socket on the PS3 that you plug Sony's AV cable into. It gives you audio L+R (along with composite video). I'm sure you can take it from there.
